Meet Brent Ivey.

Brent is the father of 3 boys and stepfather to 3 more amazing kids. Two of his sons are close friends with my youngest, and one is even his roommate at KU.

Brent is the dad every kid hopes for. A diehard Nebraska Cornhuskers fan who never missed a game his kids were playing in. The guy who funds and sets up huge tailgates out of his own pocket just to bring people together. He’s never asked anyone for anything.

A few months ago, Brent started having strange symptoms - foot pain, then his leg, then his arm and back. After countless appointments and no answers, he went from being told it was a pinched nerve… to needing a cane… to barely being able to move.

An ER visit led to KU Med, where doctors discovered a golf ball-sized brain tumor.

About ten days ago, he underwent surgery. Doctors removed most of it- but not all. Today, he’s relearning how to move, working through physical therapy, and facing a long and expensive road ahead.

Through it all, he’s stayed positive.
