@AECEO@allisonjones_cp @CBCQueensPark @CityCynthia@ColinDMello To solve the child care workforce shortage and improve access for families Ontario should bring in a salary scale:
- At least $30-$40/hr for RECEs
- At least $25/hrfor non-RECE staff
- annual increases and steps to reward years of service
- benefit & pension plans

"There is more work to do, @AlanaMarieP said, as advocates had also called for a wage grid allowing for a salary progression, along with benefits and pensions, and a wage floor for non-ECE staff, who are about 40% of the workers in licensed child care.

To solve the child care workforce shortage, ON should immediately implement a province-wide publicly funded salary scale
- at least $30-$40/hour for RECEs.
- at least $25/hour for non-RECE staff.
- Annual increases and steps to reward years of service.
- Benefit and pension plans
@AECEO In 2022, among RECEs in child care in Ontario:
- 32% earned less than $20 per hour;
- 46% earned between $20 and $25 per hour;
- Only 16% earned between $25 and $30 per hour.
Why don't more RECEs stay working in child care? They can’t make a living and can’t build a life.
@AECEO Ontario's $19/hr wage floor for RECEs is the third lowest in the country – more than $4 less than Alberta, $8 less than PEI, and $13 less than Yukon. There is no wage floor for other child care staff beyond the provincial minimum wage.
