She also didn't get us a son card or daughter card. It was a standard generic card to put money in, and it felt very much like an after thought. It feels like such a silly thing to be sad over, but cards have always been her thing, and it's like, she couldn't be bothered to try.

This was the first year that my mom didn't get us scratch offs in our "stockings". And that's fine, she's not required to get them, but it's one of very few traditions we've kept up after Dad died, and it felt like losing him all over again.
