Ontario budget announces Waldo will be able to enjoy a new Provincial Park. Somewhere, at some point. Otherwise, $20.6 billion in 2023-24 for more stone and asphalt to keep us busy in the Anthropocene, etc.
In honour of Herman Daly my (somewhat nerdy) placard against Ontario #Bill23 by jamming off the Ontario OLG logo and phrasing which fits the mood of our Ontario government gambling against the odds of reality with its addiction to (uneconomic?) growth.
@BadlandsAB Source of stats in the image: Isman…2018 used 2015 energy factors. Yes, Alberta shifting coal-to-gas to generate electricity. ~30% less co2e/KwH in 2020 vs 2015 so Calgary EF in 2020 possibly tied for top. By 2024 Halifax likely to have largest ecological footprint.
Another perspective on #albertaiscalling ads. Most of the differential is from the larger carbon component of Ecological Footprint, emitted from generating electricity by burning fossil fuels, especially coal.
Ontario’s Ecological Footprint is massive but has declined since 2005. We at @EFI_YorkU measured the big picture and details of specific goods and services and changes to landscape affecting Biocapacity. Details at https://t.co/uHhHARrEt2
@CAPE_ACME@WCDrs4PH@CANE_ACIIE@ccghc @PlaneteEnSante @CanadianPM Sadly the government showed no interest in a shift to a wellbeing society and economy. Budget 2022 was growth for the sake of growth without accounting for its consequences. More analysis here: https://t.co/C7FAEktXSG

@ArmineYalnizyan Another missed opportunity: omission of any GBA+ analysis in this year's document (vs 168 pages of GBA+ last year). Website has "The web version of this page is coming soon" with a dead PDF link "Failed - No file". In lockup did you get any info RE this?

We're releasing latest national and global data about humanity’s #EcologicalFootprint and the planet’s (overdrawn) capacity to sustain it. Mar 7 2PM EST event at https://t.co/7TydbnZMES Data afterwards via https://t.co/IHw4mAtjt7 and https://t.co/7FNhNEfHXF
This is #Mississauga scaled in proportion to size of its Ecological Footprint of consumption by footprint component (black=carbon, green=forest products, etc). Estimated by scaling Ontario EF (soon to be released) produced by @EFI_YorkU. For presentation at @MBOTOntario forum.
To #MoveTheDate of #EarthOvershootDay we at @EFI_YorkU are reducing the footprint of calculating the Ecological Footprint. Using same hardware and software we improved the #MySQL code to processes 34M rows of @FAO data using just 16% of prior time = computational energy.
Brilliant! If anyone has stats on carbon emitted per vanity spaceflight I’d be keen to convert to Ecological Footprint units of global hectares to make comparisons with competing alternatives
A new academic title is needed for those teaching beyond their "Prof Emeritus" state. Maybe "Prof Mortuus" or whatever the Latin phrase is for "Prof Beyond Pension"? Note2self: update Will to clarify who gets my e-lectures https://t.co/wXE6PndM36
