Save the date for a day of STEM fun at the @IndianaMuseum! Compete in the State 4-H Robotics Competition or Invention Convention, or simply visit to learn about these and future 4-H STEM opportunities. See you there!
Calling all 4-H engineers, tinkerers, and coders! You're invited to a statewide 4-H robotics contest on September 9th at the Hamilton County 4-H fairgrounds. Learn more at https://t.co/R94Pen7Umo, and sign your team up before September 1st!
I am looking for another MS student to work on a WRRI project that will enhance constructed wetland treatment using biochar, aeration, and duckweed. I would be open to either an August 2023 or January 2024 start. Let me know if you or someone you know are interested!
Had a good time with #PurdueExtension4H for #4HAcademy! They got to explore Engineering the Environment. They spent the day with #PurdueABE learning #ENRE natural resources eng & #BioEng renewable resources eng. Ended the day with @MyDandies s'mores in solar ovens!
Funded graduate position to build prototype open source groundwater flow sensor for USGS. Advised by myself and Keith Cherkauer. Send cover letter, CV, and 3 references. Details: https://t.co/0McuD8PoQh

#ABE205 students worked diligently throughout the semester to develop and refine their projects through a series of workshops and reviews! Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday to support the final phase of the project: effectively communicating their findings!
Our #ABE205 sophomores presented their final projects where student groups analyzed complex datasets relating to challenges in agricultural & biological engineering by developing #researchquestions & using #statisticalanalyses@PurdueAg@PurdueEngineers https://t.co/qoRjLoAPl2
Seeing the applications of probability in environmental and natural resource engineering gives students an idea of how #ABE205 course content aligns with their longer-range goals. This long-range utility hopefully helps students see the value in our learning objectives.
I am so glad that @wetlandsoil is collaborating with #ABE205 so that our lab exercises can be authentic tasks! Students practiced implementing probability concepts by determining normal precipitation ranges and comparing their results to @wetlandsoil's past findings.
I introduced the role of probability in estimating normal precipitation to support wetland delineations during our lab session. Students then saw more real-life applications of probability theory with @wetlandsoil's discussion of irrigated wetlands and backwater flooding.
Masters opportunity studying freshwater mussel health and microbiomes. Position in @PurdueFNR! Degree program begins in Jan '23, but funding is available to join the team starting in November.
Although the focus of the course is data science and computational tools, this exercise is an example of how we are encouraging students to become more strategic and self-regulated learners this semester.
I asked ABE 205 students what they struggled with during Lab 1. Most common response: not knowing how to get started on the assignment. This week, I asked students to make tables/graphic organizers during lecture and bring this tool to the associated lab as their starting point.
During today's lecture, I asked students to build onto their existing graphic organizers/tables as a reminder that the topics in this course build on another and are not separate entities.
We jumped into programming today in ABE 205 with R Bootcamp! Our R Bootcamp introduces data storage and programming basics in R. Students have varying levels of experience with coding, so this session helps get everyone a bit more prepared for the semester. @PurdueABE
I asked ABE 205 students what topics in ag & bio engineering interested them so that I can incorporate these topics into our in-class activities & examples. I am excited to begin exploring the breadth of ag & bio engineering with them as we learn data science!
What do you do when prepping for more #engineeringoutreach events? Wash the gravel of course! Has to be clean if it’s going to be included in a filter to help filter sediments out of water samples. @ecoengineerDani@PurdueABE @PurdueWIEP
