Use this Simple 2-Step Process to do Competitor Analysis for Ecom Email Marketing
1. Sign up for Their Emails
- You want to be subscribing to their newsletter to take note of the welcome sequence, promotional offers, personalization tactics, and how they segment their audience.
- Go through the add to cart and initiate checkout process to trigger the abandoned checkout flow.
- Analyze the frequency, type, and quality of the emails and SMS they send out
- Identify and categorize the types of promotions they run (seasonal, clearance, flash sales) and how they theme their campaigns.
2. Email Content and Design Evaluation
- Evaluate their email content for clarity, engagement, branding consistency, and call-to-action effectiveness.
- Critically analyze their email design regarding layout, images, responsiveness across devices, and overall aesthetic appeal.
- Determine their market positioning and unique selling points as reflected in their email messaging
- Analyze how they differentiate themselves from competitors in terms of product offerings, pricing, and customer service.
At the end of the day volume is essential, so try to sign up to at least 5 of your competitor brands.
Within a month you will have tons of emails to analyze, learn from and get inspired by.
