It was a pleasure speaking with @alexwagner & @DonDahlerCBS on @CBSThisMorning about our book The Economists’ Diet. Catch the replay here:

@appetite_doctor @obsmuk I think raising taxes on all restaurant-prepared food and everything but actual fruits and vegetables would help — potatoes and a few other starchy vegetables aside, you can eat as many veggies as you want without affecting your waist too much.
@appetite_doctor @obsmuk Good question. Taxes definitely helped reduce cigarette consumption — it’s a good general rule: if the price goes up, consumption goes down.
I agree with the other commenters. If a tax forces substation from soda to ‘sugar free,’ ‘low calorie,’ etc, that’s not gonna work.
@WisdomHacked @econdiet My enthusiasm for Noom faded fast. You are basically paying for the app to keep hounding you to eat less. Read The Econonmists' Diet. It's cheaper and better.
This checks out. There are all kinds of effective weight-loss techniques, but if you’re not regularly stepping on a scale, good luck keeping the weight off.
@econdiet Just got the Noom app and guess what is their single biggest piece of advise: Weigh yourself every day (and eat a lot of salads.) Sound familiar?
Honored to be included! 🙏

@econdiet Your Economists's diet works! Got your book for Christmas and have lost 40 pounds since Jan 1 following your guidelines. I use the WW diet to track my food intake and I use your guidelines including (Weigh Every Morning) to stick with the diet and keep losing weight.
There's much we can agree with in this well written article. Of course we don't buy into the fatalism that your weight is determined by factors outside of your control, but losing weight is bloody hard work for sure.

When @barnettenergy was fat, his doctor would regularly tell him to cut out McDonald's. Although on the surface, this could be considered sound advice -- except for the fact that almost never ate at McDonald's.
