Today, an ECPP delegation had the honour of meeting Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican.

We briefly discussed ECPP’s commitment to promoting and defending Christian values as the only explicitly Christian party represented in the European Parliament and presented a gift to His Holiness.

Meeting the Holy Father was a great encouragement in our work to promote human dignity, solidarity, and Europe’s Christian heritage.

🗣️ “Europe does not need mass censorship or constant surveillance. It needs strong families, strong borders, strong faith, and strong law enforcement.”

During a debate on the online recruitment of children by organised crime, ECPP MEP Cristian Terhes argued that the roots of the problem go far beyond the internet alone.

Vulnerable children are increasingly drawn into criminal networks because of broken families, social abandonment, weak communities and a loss of moral guidance. MEP Terheș warned against using the issue as a justification for greater online surveillance and political control, calling instead for stronger families, safer communities and effective law enforcement.

🗣️ What is the Commission doing about antisemitic schoolbooks?

ECPP MEP @CristianTerhes questioned EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas about EU-funded schoolbooks used in UNRWA schools that contain material inciting hatred towards Jews.

@kajakallas acknowledged that incitement and hate in education are major obstacles to long-term peace and confirmed that the EU is pressing the Palestinian Authority to fully revise school textbooks by the end of 2026.

Recently, the US announced plans to reduce troop deployments in Europe. ECPP MEP @CristianTerhes argues Europe should not see this as a crisis, but as an opportunity.

🗣“Since the Obama years, Washington has signalled its strategic shift away from Europe. While Poland and other countries on the eastern flank have significantly increased their military capabilities and defence budgets, too many Western European countries continue to underinvest and delay meaningful defence action.”

MEP Terheș calls for commitment to NATO and for Europe to take greater responsibility for its own defence. Europe must send a clear message:

ECPP MEP @SerbanDSturdza describes the reality in communist Cuba: the suppression of peaceful protests, arbitrary arrests, torture, lack of access to food and medicine, and extreme poverty.

🗣️ ECPP MEP @hjaruissen calls for a stronger focus on circular agriculture in the EU’s fertilizer policy.

While the proposed Fertilizer Action Plan aims to keep fertilizers affordable and reduce dependence on imports, Ruissen argues that it misses a key opportunity: the reuse of nutrients from animal manure.
He also calls on the European Commission to revise the outdated Nitrates Directive.

The European Citizens’ Initiative needs clearer rules. Initiatives should be checked at registration to determine whether they fall within EU competences.

The Commission followed up on the “My Voice, My Choice” ECI calling for an EU abortion fund, and on an ECI banning conversion therapies. Issues that belong to Member States. Yet in 2014, it rejected the “One of Us” ECI.
