*_Five Generations, One Regiment: The Ahlawat Family Creates Military History_*
In a historic milestone in India’s military heritage, the Ahlawat family has set a remarkable record: five consecutive generations serving as officers in the prestigious 1 Horse (Skinner’s Horse), one of the Indian Army’s oldest and most renowned Cavalry Regiments, established on February 23, 1803.
The family’s bond with Skinner’s Horse began with Lt Sheochand Ahlawat (1886–1918), who distinguished himself in Afghanistan, participated in the Boxer Rebellion in China, and fought valiantly in the First World War. His legacy was continued by his son, Capt Daryao Singh Ahlawat (1918–1948), a distinguished veteran of the Second World War.
The third generation, Lt Col Shamsher Singh Ahlawat (1955–1982), played a pivotal role in the Liberation of Goa and the Indo-Pak wars of 1965 and 1971, where he sustained serious injuries. The tradition was upheld by the fourth generation, Col Sandeep Ahlawat (1993–2026), who served during the Kargil conflict and in counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast, eventually commanding Skinner’s Horse.
Now, the legacy enters its fifth generation. Lieutenant Shivam Ahlawat was commissioned into the 1 Horse (Skinner’s Horse) on September 5, 2026, reaffirming a military heritage that spans 140 years.
Five generations. One regiment. 140 years of unwavering service. An unbroken legacy of excellence.
In a sensational development regarding the Kishtwar case between DC and 17 RR, unverified reports indicate that an FIR has been filed by the unit concerning the seizure and damage of sensitive communication equipment installed in the vehicle. If these reports are accurate, considering the known vulnerabilities of the Kashmir police, it raises concerns about the potential transmission of sensitive data to Pakistan. This situation could necessitate replacing the entire equipment, resulting in significant logistical and financial challenges for the nation, especially the military.
I was not surprised by Col Danvir's tweet. The Indian Army is full of such career officers for whom promotion comes first; dignity is not a concern. I wonder why he couldn't rise further in ranks. His conduct on the TV debate was so poor that he ended up being abused by an uncouth Congress spokesperson. He couldn't respond effectively. What a sad moment for the olive green.
Common Mr Ricky Ponting .. you can’t eat the cake and have it too..repeat show of Aussies from 2008 when Kumble said.. Only one team was playing with the spirit of the game, that's all I can say
