The irony is hard to miss.

The Congress-led UPA government had fixed the price for oil companies to procure ethanol for blending with petrol at ₹27 per litre in 2010, years before the BJP came to power. The decision was part of the Ethanol Blended Petrol programme.

Ethanol blending was clearly a “dream” of the UPA.

The problem? Like so many of their other “dreams”, they implemented very little.

Now, after the Modi government has actually taken ethanol blending from a policy aspiration to a nationwide reality, they want to claim credit and blame the BJP for a policy they themselves initiated.
