Moo Deng knows the vibe. High levels of lead and arsenic have been found in areas that were once orchards in central Washington. These heavy metals come from pesticides used in the area in the 1900s, and exposure to these contaminants can negatively affect your health.
The Cle Elum juvenile fish passage facility is open! This first-in-the-nation helix structure will help increase sockeye return to the Yakima Basin. Congrats to @YakimaBasinPlan, Yakama Nation Fisheries, and all who have spent years making this possible.

Wildfires can strike with devastating speed, posing serious threats to our livestock and farming operations. Here are some crucial steps to help safeguard your animals and ensure their well-being during a wildfire:
Most of the region should expect air quality from moderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups. Air quality may reach unhealthy closer to active fires, like the Pioneer and Retreat Fires. The Methow Valley is also experiencing smoke from the Calcite Creek Fire in British Columbia.
Changing winds may bring smoke into Western WA by Wed. night from 4 significant wildfires, including 1 on the Canadian side of Okanagan National Forest. Stay informed about air quality: https://t.co/PpOZVOzYd1.
We're looking for our next Community Outreach & Environmental Education Specialist 3 to support & conduct outreach, education, and public involvement. You will be engaging with diverse audiences!
Get your application in for initial review by Aug. 14.

How it started --> How it's going. 🥲 Southerly flow brought lots of smoke up from fires in Oregon and California overnight. The good news? It's mainly aloft and not at the surface...yet. Smoke will likely mix down to lower levels of the atmosphere over the next few days.
An Air Quality Alert has been issued for all of Yakima County until further notice. Due to expected smoke from nearby and regional wildfires, sensitive groups should take extra caution.

Well we are getting smoky again. Check out where it’s all coming from along with current air quality levels here at WA Smoke Blog.

Human activities are the leading cause of wildfires, accounting for nearly 90% of all PNW wildfires. Vehicles are common sources of wildfires, especially in dry and fire-prone areas. Start by doing a quick check of your motorized vehicles and help prevent a wildfire!
DNR crews are responding to the #BlackCanyonFire approx. 10 miles NW of Naches in Yakima County. Fire is estimated at 1000 acres. Multiple resources will be working the fire through the evening. Follow Yakima County OEM for evac updates at this link: https://t.co/mUpdRRW0Kk
Breezy winds and dry conditions will bring critical fire weather conditions to central Washington on Wednesday and to central and eastern Washington on Thursday. Fires will be capable of spreading rapidly and will be difficult to contain. Please be smart!
Wildfire weather conditions are critical across WA. The Pioneer Fire is now over 30,000 acres, and dry lightning has sparked multiple new fires. An Air Quality Alert for Chelan County and Methow Valley is still in place. More on the WA Smoke Blog: https://t.co/VGu5lAFPn9
