The following was sent to me from Stargate SG-1 & Atlantis director Mario Azzopardi. It is published here with his permission.

"Devastated. Angry. Saddened. I cannot fully explain what I feel today.
@almurray My grandfather would talk happily to my mother about the WW2 (when he was more senior). He would not talk about WW1 (when he was a very junior officer under fire in the trenches). He was a doctor, but the huge deaths around him in WW1 remained too much to discuss
@almurray There is an honesty to it which makes it work. Compare that to any number of bland corporate or political speeches today which are so unrelentingly positive as to be insincere fluff
I asked chatgpt's new image model to script and generate a series of comics starring itself as the main character. The results genuinely gave me chills.
I'll post them all in a thread below.
@GeoffNorcott It's only Austerity when from the Conservative regions of the Home Counties, if it's from anywhere else, it's just sparkling policy (etc)
@edzitron Interesting post. You talk about government not doing enough. The EU has a more active approach to regulation (GDPR, AI Act, Digital Services Act, Digital Markets Act, Data Act) & the UK too (UK GDPR, Online Safety Act). Does it actually help? Should the US copy it?
Newsletter: A subprime AI crisis is brewing. Most of the tech industry has bought into a technology sold at a discounted rate, heavily-subsidized by big tech. If it collapses, the cascade effect could savage both startups and public companies alike.

@DannyBaram Because senior people don't see the pointless busywork. It's beneath their notice, out of their view. So they don't think about it enough (most of it could have been got rid of without AI). They see the company's product, and so that's what they think about.
@EwaSR We don't sign the Treaty of Windsor in 1386, have more wars with Portugal, and e.g. Portugal doesn't stay neutral in WW2 so we can't use the Azores to help with the Battle of the Atlantic.
@EwaSR We decide to relieve Minorca rather than Gibraltar in the 1780s - or lose both and protect the US colonies. Either way US might still be British but WW2 would have gone differently in N. Africa
@BrazierMary Sadly I can't, but when researching my grandfather https://t.co/LV0P7dUHaF who ran some desert medical services the topic came up briefly - is there information available online?
@MyMarlowUK Marlow Rowing Club has three boats in the Henley Royal Regatta finals tomorrow - junior boys, junior girls and senior men's four. This is a huge result for the club and deserves a mention
@Plugspark@4st8 The Boundary Commission is set strict rules about how many people a constituency can have, and applies other factors including geography and local ties so names follow more logically: https://t.co/Dv02R8khsa
@depthsofwiki See also Jack Churchill https://t.co/3u7FXKbvsL who famously carried swords and a bow around in WW2 (although didn't use them as much as rumoured)
