These people are giving the game away. They want to create a world in which no one has the desire to read, create or think, and eventually no one has the capacity to. Reading, critical thinking, the humanities, are never wastes of time; they are what make us free.
It would be fun if public libraries were well-funded and open in the evenings and we built a culture where it’s normal to gather at the library after work and browse the shelves and chat about the latest books and read the Saturday night away.

Haitian solders risked & gave their lives fighting alongside the Patriots during the American Revolution in 1779. This monument in downtown Savannah honors their service. Several who served in the American war for independence would later fight in the war for Haitian independence
