UK Finance has confirmed it will not implement the intended £50 charge to access the Mortgage Lenders’ Handbook after backlash from the conveyancing community.
The proposed charge, which was due to be implemented from 2nd March, will no longer be levied.

A huge amount of thought and work has been spent by a number of stakeholders in the Conveyancing Industry responding to the Government’s Home Buying and Selling Consultation including of course from the Conveyancing Association of which I am an Executive Committee member..
Having read all the responses it is clear there is unanimity on some aspects including the need and benefit of upfront information and the need to regulate estate agents as the only remaining player in the process not to be subject to the same strict regulatory framework as lenders brokers and conveyancers .. let us hope that the Government take full account of these measured views and puts in place real momentum so that ( God Forbid !) this Goverment is replaced and all the work expended by the Consultees

I see that today there is news of a new conveyancing proposition which has raised £2.5m in seed funding from Venture Capital Funds to revolutionise the conveyancing sector and at the same time we see the Legal Services Ombudsman proposing a whopping % increase in their funding to cope with the ever increasing cost of dealing with complaints - at one level there is a disconnect here - new entrants coming into an already established and mature market whilst on the other hand the existing suppliers facing a rise in the cost of dealing with complaints ..
If we took better care of our customers and provided the level of service that they now expect from suppliers in the 21st Century and if we could upgrade our archaic conveyancing process then both our customers would benefit and we would from lower complaint levels - thats my Xmas

Now that we have heard and survived the Budget nightmare scenarios do we expect to see up an uptick of new instructions this side of Xmas or will it be ( no) business as usual for December ??
Im not going to mention the budget other than to thank Rachel for not messing with the stamp duty regime .. as conveyancers we dread a stamp duty rate change deadline - it puts unwelcome pressure on what is already a creaking system and can antagonise the relationship between conveyancer and client - so my thanks goes to Rachel !!
