The clouds were ROLLING near Clarenville yesterday (July 22, 2026)... or were they?! #nlwx

These are called asperitas clouds, known for their dramatic, wave-like appearance. They form when turbulence and waves in the atmosphere distort the underside of a cloud layer. Despite looking ominous, they don’t necessarily signal severe weather.

Much drier start to the work-week on the island after a wet finish to the weekend – especially on the south coast and southern Avalon. Heaviest amounts from Burgeo through Bay d'Espoir to the north side of Placentia Bay, where totals reached about 40-60 mm. #nlwx

A Yellow Level Wreckhouse Wind Warning for Channel-Port aux Basques and a Yellow Level Wind Warning for Bay St. George will go into effect Sunday morning (July 19, 2026) and continue until Sunday evening. #nlwx

Wind speeds in areas prone to enhanced southeasterlies will gust as high as 110 in the BSG area and 130 in the Wreckhouse area.
