Grateful for all the people and experiences that helped prepare me for this moment. Excited and ready for the next chapter.
Galatians 6:14: May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
Illinois beats South Carolina and Tennessee back to back bowl games. Pinch me. Kick me. Wake me up from this improbable dream of meaningful college football every year under Bret Bielema. This cannot be real life
The number of grown-ass adults who don’t understand rights blows my mind.
Rights fall into two categories: negative rights and positive rights.
Positive rights are things you’re owed, regardless of circumstance. For example, if you live in a country with free healthcare, that’s a positive right — you don’t inherently have healthcare, but the system says you’re entitled to it.
Negative rights are freedoms you already possess — and no one, including the government, is allowed to take them from you. Freedom of speech is a classic example: you can say whatever you want, and the government can’t legally stop you.
America’s Constitution is built almost entirely on negative rights.
You’re owed due process, and that’s about it. Outside of that, all the Constitution does is guarantee that the government won’t interfere with your speech, your guns, your religion, or your life.
And if they try?
You’re armed for a reason.
There’s the civics lesson you should’ve gotten in third grade.
I want minimal government involvement in my life, from taxation, regulation, influence, etc. Build my roads, secure our borders, protect our citizens and leave me alone.
