Split the #Yankees' season in half and it's pretty easy to tell one of their biggest issues has been run prevention.
From Opening Day to May 28, the Yankees were 35-20. They had the highest OPS (.809) and wRC+ (124) on offense in MLB. Their pitching staff had the fifth-best ERA (3.25) and second-best FIP (3.40).
Since then, the Yankees are 25-33, including last night's walk-off loss. Their offense is still one of the best. They have the fourth-best OPS (.754) and wRC+ (109) ... but their pitching staff has regressed dramatically. The Yankees have the fourth-worst ERA (4.86) and FIP (4.68).
Obviously there's more to this, but it puts this summer into perspective.
