🚨#BREAKING: Iceland Declares State of Emergency Due to Volcanic Eruption Threat Following 1400 Earthquakes in 24 Hours
📌#Grindavik | #Iceland
Icelandic authorities have declared a state of emergency following a series of powerful earthquakes that shook the country's southwestern Reykjanes peninsula, indicating an elevated risk of a volcanic eruption in the region. The village of Grindavik, housing around 4,000 people, has been evacuated. It is situated 1.86 miles from the epicenter where 1400 earthquakes occurred in the past 24 hours. On Thursday, the Blue Lagoon, along with its geothermal plant near Grindavik the primary provider of electricity and water to 30,000 residents has been closed off to the public. #ONStorm#ONwx ⚠️ IMPORTANT FROST CLARIFICATION
You may have noticed that Environment Canada issued a frost advisory for Windsor, Niagara and parts of the GTA for tonight. While the rest of Southern Ontario was left out.

We have seen some confusion with people in other areas thinking they’re in the clear. It’s important to understand that Environment Canada *only* issues frost advisories during the growing season.
That season ends sometime in early to mid-October for most regions in Southern Ontario. Since it’s October 22nd, the only regions still in their growing season are Toronto, Peel, Halton, Niagara, Chatham and Essex County. We've included a map that shows the end of the growing season for all the regions across Southern Ontario. This is the date that Environment Canada stops issuing frost advisories until the spring.
There is the risk of frost almost everywhere in Southern Ontario tonight so don't let the lack of an advisory fool you. If you have any sensitive plants you'd like to protect, be sure to take the proper precautions to protect them against the frost.

We need to stop regarding the climate emergency as a stand-alone environmental problem. Global heating, although ruinous, is not the sole symptom of our present struggling on Earth. See our climate emergency paper. Think overshoot. https://t.co/E8p3tFbzed… cartoon- P. A.Jansen
I made this last night, because this is the most worrying 12 months that I’ve seen in my 15 years as a climate scientist. This is only a small collection of the crazy graphs from this year (part 1 of 2)
Code UFB!!!
In a year of weather records, yesterday was 0.92°C above the 1991-2020 mean and fully 1.75°C above the 1850-1900 IPCC baseline.
Year-to-date the planet is now 1.37°C above the 1850-1900 baseline, with about a 50% chance to break the Paris limit for the year.
Canadian teenager Summer McIntosh should be a star at next year's Paris Olympics, and she showed why Sunday on the closing day of the swimming world championships in Japan. https://t.co/KqRM3WJqbt
Um, this chart is from @BMcNoldy at the Univ of Miami. It shows incredibly hot--almost hot-tub hot--ocean water.
He said: "I'm not sure I've ever seen the water around Florida look like this...at any time of year."
