I was 11 and in the 1st quarter of 6th grade when I got mine and know people who got it in 5th (parents do hold kids back a year from starting 1st grade sometimes).

Even in sixth grade, if you've never learned about periods, suddenly bleeding inexplicably could be TERRIFYING.
