Gr.2s have been learning about Arctic communities such as their culture, games and celebrations. We learned about the artist Ted Harrison and how his art focuses on landscapes. Students were inspired to create their own landscape art! Beautiful job!

This week we were gifted a virtual meeting with Elder Saa’kokoto! The students were so excited to see him again!! He spoke to us about the concept of story and its fundamental importance. As he shared the story of Okotok and Naa’pi, some students made visualizations of the story.

Gr2s have been learning a lot about different bugs. For a fun art activity students created their own ant colonies and imagined all the different rooms that ants could have. Students were very creative with adding movie rooms, dining rooms, training rooms, bedrooms, etc.

This week we had a great discussion around good writing and what students think writing is. What do you think the job of a writer is? We also started exploring brain pockets to help support our writing ideas as well as the freedom and joy of free choice writing.

Last week we made a list of 40 qualities of Terry Fox then we examined one of his quotes regarding goal setting. During these unpredictable times it is important to focus on small, attainable goals. We refer to his quote daily as we continue to develop our focus and stamina.

We were blessed with beautiful weather today for our Terry Fox Run. Students enjoyed the fresh air and challenging themselves to try and run as many laps as they can. Way to go students for showing spirit and trying your best like Terry Fox! #EdgemontStrong

In math we continue to develop our number sense and thinking flexibly with numbers by playing math games and solving estimation problems. Students are enjoying Steve Wyborney’s number challenges by working through clues to find the answer.
