This is our sixth summer in our lovely corner of west #Devon and at last we’ve seen as well as heard a spotted flycatcher in our garden. Thanks to the Merlin bird recognition app for helping us pin it down. And not mowing much! Wood warbler next?
I take today to be pretty much the end of spring (though in Greenery I steal a few July days in the Norwegian north to finish my story); that means the autumn is upon us. I wanted to love this spring much more than I did. Is the time out of joint or am I just a man in fall now?
Just spent 15 minutes sitting with a coffee and this free app helped me hear 24 bird species - I’ll need to check its right about Firecrest and Spotted Flycatcher but they’re both on our list of possibles for our corner of lovely #Devon - it’s SO good I’ve learned a lot in days
Welcome to west #Devon - first thing I saw today as I put the kettle on this morning was this fledgling baby Tawny owl flattening a viburnum with its weight. We can only hope it makes it over the coming weeks to add to the thriving local population
It’s great to see this magnificent magnolia coming into bloom overlooking #Chagford and the River Teign - should be safe from frosts now. Big thank you to past gardeners
Good bird day in west #Devon - tree creeper from the kitchen window and then a dippers by bridge at confluence of north and south Teign. Will they breed?
Just planting out some Rowan saplings and taken a breather beneath this stunning #magnolia - first time it’s flowered properly since 2019 - we need some signs of #hope
Just finished clearing a massive horse chestnut branch from the path. One spike was buried 50cm into the earth. Pretty clear what the lesson is for winter #storms - play poker
I just signed a @thegreenparty petition to support the amendments that give us an Environment Bill that will deliver what's urgently needed for people and nature. Sign here:https://t.co/jQUjgyT4vT
Good luck to everyone participating in the #Throwleigh Fete this afternoon - and here are some historic accounts of August in Throwleigh #Dartmoor#Devon https://t.co/WHv4tSP6we
The Biggest Ship in the World, Swan Hunter, Wallsend, May 2nd 1969 By Phil George. Phil's paintings are always full of life and colour, they're lovely things to see. I believe this one was sold at the @clarkart gallery who represent the artist 👍
We're very excited that from tomorrow #Watersmeet will be reopen.
The access road proved very difficult to fix but from tomorrow cream teas, light lunches and cakes are back 5 days a week (the tea-room will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays).
@chrissiepebbles @ryanjean77 They were very clear about the importance of following LNT principles - and about the ecological as well as legal reasons not to make open fires _in the wild_. They aren't a bunch of amateurs.
Having a #Dartmoor#staycation and we finally managed to go wild camping thanks mainly to the inspiring course led by Charlie Loram and Emily Fawcett of the Old Way programme last weekend - https://t.co/chDAbPR89q - think we may have caught the bug
