The BBC’s failure to cover the GIDS scandal has been a serious dereliction of its public duty.

After resigning as a governor of the Tavistock, I was involved behind the scenes in the 2019 Panorama programme on GIDS. The producer warned me I might be disappointed the programme would expose only one part of the scandal, not the whole story. That warning told me everything I needed to know about the BBC’s problem with impartiality on this issue.

When Sue Evans and Keira Bell won the first judicial review, there was no serious follow-up from the BBC News, Woman’s Hour, or other major outlets. Nor was there adequate coverage of one of the most important findings of the Cass Review: the poor quality of the evidence base behind medical interventions for children and adolescents with gender distress.

Instead, the BBC repeatedly broadcast positive stories about transition while failing to investigate the harms, uncertainties, and institutional failures surrounding this field. Sue and I have seen some of the casualties. Parents have been badly let down by professional bodies that lacked the courage or independence to challenge the affirmative model none of which received the scrutiny a public broadcaster exists to provide.

With honourable exceptions in Newsnight and the Today programme, the BBC has failed young people, failed parents, and failed in its most basic public duty.

our teeth on the battle against clause 27/section 28. People don't understand the continuity between that campaign and GC positions today because they don't think it through. They don't recognize the common underlying homophobia of Thatcher and the TRAs that Akua explains below.

Nonetheless the fact that there are so many veterans of that battle in GC ranks now should make Bragg and others pause.

Yet another extraordinary day at the Lorna Young vs Manchester City Council employment tribunal.

Lorna is taking her former employer, Manchester City Council, to an employment tribunal for unfair dismissal on the grounds of religion or belief. She holds gender critical beliefs.

Angela Harrington Director of Inclusive Economy was responsible for Lorna's appeal against her dismissal for 4 tweets - 2 likes and 2 reposts from an anonymous X account.

One of the tweets was about Bingo, a non binary vicar who was vocal on social media talking about his identity 'from God's guidance' and that 'God loves sparkly eyeshadow'. AH thought the complainants Catholic belief that 'the devil is the source of evil' was badly expressed.

Lorna also liked a tweet from @Glinner that describes 'trans ideology as the most evil, homophobic, misogynistic thing in my lifetime'. AH said there are more moderate ways to talk about misogyny and homophobia than say they are evil.

Another tweet Lorna was dismissed for was about a Drag Queen Story Hour event with children, the tweet was read out at the tribunal, direct quotation not available but we did hear the barrister for the complaint use the term 'ball sack', Lorna objected to men with a piece of plastic around their genitals at a children's event.

The witness interpreted the tweets one way, a way which was detrimental to the complainant, AH did not take into account the complainants detailed reasoning - it also appeared she took the entirety of the tweets into consideration, despite the fact she hadn't read them and that only 4 were referenced in the dismissal.

How she expressed her views were in contradiction of MCC's motion Trans Rights are Human Rights, AH says 'GC views okay but must be careful about expression' AH conceded there was no reputational risk.
