@lasisielenu I was posted to a government facility recently and I was surprised at low quality of care the patients receive and lack of equipment and consumables for the workers.
I have been very patriotic but this particular experience has made me rethink my choice of actually staying.

Spiritual warfare 101 - No matter how overwhelmed you “feel” inside, never show the devil. You see, the devil is NOT Omniscient, so he does not know all things. The things he knows about us are things said and spoken of us. Or the things we let out from our mouths ourselves or by our reactions and actions. So while you may be overwhelmed in your soul, the way he gets to know is from your reaction. And because he is a wicked and oppressive entity, when he knows where it hurts, he robs it in the more.

But responding in praise confounds him. This is exactly the rationale behind the idea that praise confuses the enemy. Because he can’t understand why his onslaught is not causing you to give up and give in.

So beloved saints of God, regardless how you feel right now, find a way to release your praise !

In 2001,she became the head of NAFDAC.
By 2006, she had reduced the circulation of fake drugs in Nigeria from 80% to 17% & other fake drink/products

I apologize for not telling you this earlier. Maybe because I was lost in the excitement of the opportunity moving abroad brings you. Or maybe because I did not think about it.

I apologize for not telling you that you will have to stand for 12 hours during your shifts.

I apologize for not telling you that you will need to pick extra shifts to make ends meet and live comfortably.

I apologize for not explaining the importance of community support and that you will struggle within the first few weeks and months.

I sincerely apologize for not giving you a heads-up that you may not be able to eat your native meals anymore, and even if you do, they will not taste the same.

I apologize for not telling you about specific cultural differences, maybe because I do not even know them all. You have to be ready to embrace everyone’s culture.

I apologize for not telling you that you do not have to say “sorry” if it is not your fault, and that saying sorry will automatically make you a suspect of the situation.

I apologize again for not telling you the importance of buying quality and comfortable work shoes - they will save you body pains and leg aches.

I apologize for not telling you the importance of record keeping. I mean, having a personal diary where you jot down things that happened with you at work, etc. This will save you when you least expect it.

I apologize for not telling you to avoid bank or agency shifts until your competencies have been signed off and you are confident. A lot of people have gotten into trouble because of this.

Regarding tax, I should have told you this “Don’t cut corners”. Let HMRC do their thing. If you have any issues, call them.

I apologize for not telling you that every action here has consequences, and you don’t need to know anyone in the authorities.

I apologize for not telling you that whilst you are supposed to work effectively and have good team dynamics, colleagues are not friends, and if a friend turns to a colleague, don’t mix work and friendship.

I should have told you this, but I think you already know. Be diligent with your work and do not malinger.

I apologize for not telling you that to build a stable relationship here, you have to make sacrifices and be deliberate about it.

I apologize for not explaining the importance of building a credit score. I know we come from a background where we have to always pay for things in full... well, it is different here.

I apologize if I didn’t mention to you the importance of entering the electoral register.

There are a lot of things I wish I had told you sooner, but I am happy you are here now. Make the best of this journey.

Dear Nigerian matrons in Nigeria hospitals;

-Stop eating your young nurses up. Please support them to grow and improve the profession. They look up to you professionally and in leadership.

-That a staff nurse decides to further their education and go for a BSC or Masters, doesn't mean they want to take your job. There is something called personal goals and aspirations. People have these.

-Stop using wicked shifts to scatter the plans or academic schedules of colleagues who are working and schooling. It only breeds frustration among your staff.

-Using night shift to punish your junior colleagues simply because of a work related misunderstanding is pure wickedness.

-Stop shouting at your colleagues in front of patients, relatives, and other health professionals. It is not professional. Use the nurses' room to discuss these matters (not shouting)

-That colleague that dressed smart and wore nice perfume is not a prostitute. They owe themselves the duty to look good and smell nice.

-Stop using hospital politics to witch hunt your colleagues. In the end, it does not benefit the profession.

-The hospital is not a place to sell coke, stock fish, crayfish, and other things like asoebi uniform.

-Student nurses came to learn and not to be used as errand boys and girls. Stop sending them to buy suya, bole and fish, coke and gala!

-Stop favouring school of nursing students over Degree students. They all came to learn from the clinical environment. Stop the comparison of who knows more than the other.

-I think it is OK for colleagues in other professions to assist you by giving you a ride. But standing along the road every day to look for free ride is not professional tbh!

-Please try and move about at work. Sitting all day because you're a matron is not good for your health and makes you become redundant.

-Personal development js very important. Apart from MCPDP, do well to constantly learn and improve. Nursing is evidence based practice, and the evidence keeps changing.

-Do well to always arm yourself for ward rounds. Know your patients, their blood results and values, the investigations, and also what your professional opinion about their care is. Don't just move the trolly and case files during ward rounds.

There is so much more that needs to be said, but I believe if we can work on these, others will start falling in place.

I am not attempting to break any table. I'm only saying what everyone already knows, but no one is talking about.

OUR DEMANDS

1. Reverse Fuel price to May 29. 2023 price of N190.

2. Reverse Electricity tariff to May 29 2023 rate of N60.

3. All elected and appointed officials should be on same minimum wage as civil servants.

4. Criminalize the use of brutal force on citizens by security agents.

5. Stop the direct and indirect funding of first lady's office.

6. Create a website where all government agencies and parastatals must publish their weekly income and spendings accounts, failure to publish for 2 weeks automatically declares the office of whoever is in charge (head) of account and the DG, Minister, Commissioner or Chairman vacant.

7. Prohibit government from funding religious Pilgrims.

8. Prohibit Nigerian states and FGN from further borrowing outside Nigeria.

9. Prohibit public servants from flying out of Nigeria using government funds for medical, training, vacation or any social/personal business.

10. All civil servants, elected and appointed public servants must educate their kids in Nigeria (no exceptions, if you want your kids educated outside Nigeria resign).

11. Repeal the Inspector General of Police retirement/tenure extension.

12. All security personnel attached to individuals and their property be withdrawn with immediate effect and sent to hot zones.

13. Increase all security personnel, health workers and teachers salaries by at least 35%.

14. Sale the Presidential Yacht immediately.

15. Scrap the senate immediately.

16. Stop constituency project for all lawmakers.

17A. INEC, the EFCC and ICPC act be re-enacted to give them the mandate to appoint their board and heads just as the judiciary do.

17B. INEC, the EFCC and ICPC be remove under the presidency, with the National Assembly still retaining it oversight powers.

18A. Amend the electoral act to include compulsory use of BVAS.

18B. Compulsory electronic transmission of polling unit results from the unit geo location.

18C. Compulsory compilation of result on iREV if any disparity, results on iREV shall be declared.

19. Amend the Constitution to compel All electoral tribunal cases be settled before day of swearing in.

20. Prohibit elected officials family members from using public assets like Jets, Official Car, motorcade etc. without the presence of the elected official.

21. Prohibit all government officials from flying first class whether they are the ones paying or not.

22. No elected or appointed public servants should have more than 5 (SSA, Personal Assistant and Personal Advisers put together).

23. Prohibit spouses and children of Judges from contesting election (one must give up their ambition for the other).

24. Discontinue payment of all allowances to elected and appointed officials (enroll them for NHIS).

25. Employ and post civil servants aides such as drivers, cooks, gardeners etc to government officials.

The people are the power, meet our demands or face severe civil disobedience.
