That's a wrap on #EMF21 for another year. Thank you to all our audience for coming along, to our talented and insightful presenters -- especially @bridgetblou for delivering a blistering keynote, to @cityofmelbourne for your financial support, and to EP @claresmillar -- MDSxo
@alanvaarwerk If people need extra time, building capacity -- being a bit more of a buffer, so if things happen there are more contingencies around it. So writers would sort of passively feel less stressed about the whole process. #EMF21
@alanvaarwerk I haven't necessarily practised what I preached in terms of work-life balance. It's always easier to say than do. One way of helping writers is upholding my end of the deal: making sure that I am being open rather than just not reaching out at all. #EMF21
Danny Silva Soberano: No one is pretending that they're completely OK or that everything is completely put together anymore. We're not trying to be completely clean and squeaky anymore. We're better at communicating now. #EMF21
@alanvaarwerk I think that hybrid platform [between IRL and online events] is going to be really important. It should've always been really important. #EMF21
@alanvaarwerk w @kyd_magazine we've leaned more into online writers' workshops using Teachable. Where they used to be held on half a day in Melbourne, to being something that you do in your own time. And it's something that works for the writer giving the workshops too #EMF21
@alanvaarwerk shouts out a video-streamed launch, incl games, `that leaned into the "glitchy" nature of online streaming from @liminalmag in 2020. #EMF21
Entries for the 2022 New Critic Award close on Tuesday 30 November! You could win a $1000 cash prize and have your own paid KYD column in 2022. https://t.co/O3bw9vInAl
Danny Silva Soberano: The @VoiceworksMag Animal Crossing launch really did play into a lot of trends during that time. Credit to @adalyanh for that. #EMF21
@alanvaarwerk From a practical stanpoint we all kind of shifted. We discovered far too late that Slack is a thing. That was a big technological change that we made to how we communicated. #EMF21
[Is it going to last?] Danny: I feel like it really could. There is this desire for transparency. But I think for it to last, what needs to happen is for that desire for transparency to be across all lit magazines. #EMF21
Danny: [During the pandemic] At Voiceworks, what happened was we started communicating with these interstate editors every day. And we stopped pretending we were OK, and we reached out to each other. And when editors work together this way, ethics are truly fleshed out. #EMF21
