PS: @dansoto's graciously smoothing that speed bump down a little with a NOLA-centric server at https://t.co/1TbOPrlEsI. May it ease your path to Mastodon. We gotta help each other out, folks; that's what makes a community.

I've set up my own Mastodon server (https://t.co/rLJ3YThkOT) primarily to see what all it entails from setup, costs, moderation, etc.
If you're unsure about Mastodon, feel free to join and play around. You can always, easily, move/migrate to other servers later.

@NOLALeyda @MarkFolse@Noladishu Thanks. Yes, I moved servers and inadvertently ended up with a different, shorter handle. I will take Mar's advice and put it in my bio here.
@swampwoman Deleting accounts? That is something I've never done! I don't burn bridges. I don't even like to close the door behind me. Thanks for your help, by the way: you smoothed the path for me.
@mike_d_clarke You're far too modest; the world needs your perspective. Anyhow, I guarantee one gets more easily exposed to a more diverse array of ideas on that platform than this, so I think you'll enjoy it.
@elsbet@skooks ...but when I followed you I did so on "my" server https://t.co/PSXkraFekQ - all of which is seamless in the app but takes a little getting used to on the web
@elsbet@skooks In a word: no. Your server is https://t.co/V3KChY7ma2. Mine is https://t.co/szH5jfQH3v. If I look on your server, or you on mine, we may be prompted to login, but there's no need. We already have accounts on our respective servers. So I found you here: https://t.co/IpJCdMLRaH
@elsbet@skooks If you primarily are doing this via web browser, it's mainly a conceptual hurdle as you get started. You can copy the handle of the person you want to follow, and search for it on your home server, and follow them that way. And I'm sure there are other ways.
@elsbet@skooks OK, now I think I know what you're experiencing. It's part of the federated decentralized thing, when you try to follow someone on another server. I can see that would be confusing at first! Not an issue on the apps I've been using, only on the web.
@mike_d_clarke I'm a whore for attention, Mike. That's what has always driven me to seek maximum exposure. So don't believe the hype! You'll be just as visible there as here, though obviously Twitter has the massively larger userbase — for now.
