VIDEO | Delhi: Speaking after the pre-screening of short film ‘Devyani’, Ashwani Kumar IAS Director, DITEC & Secretary IT, Government of Assam says, "In today's society, women and daughters-in-law are often made to feel that nobody is happy when a girl is born into the family. People think it is a shock, that they will have to pay dowry for the girl, or that girls are bad or inauspicious. But that is not the whole picture. There are many people who want to have a daughter, but there is a fear in their minds because of the situation in society. When a girl goes out, there is always uncertainty about whether she will return safely. She may face harassment every day, outside and even from her own relatives and at home. There is a mindset where everyone wants to protect themselves from that crisis. People worry about how they will ensure their daughter's safety if they have one, and this concern continues to trouble them. This is not about the financial aspect; it is a different kind of problem that I have seen and experienced, and that is what I have tried to portray in this film."
