I was happy to join today’s celebration of Edmonton’s declaration of the Black-billed Magpie as the city’s honorary bird, and encourage people to explore Matthew James Weigel’s art installation The Magpie and the Buffalo Treaty, at EPCOR’s Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Its official folks!

Vote for your favourite image that depicts our river valley's wildlife for the Face of Edmonton in 2025. 1. Coyote staring down a hare; 2. Magpie soaring to the sun; 3. Sturgeon circling in our waters. Comments appreciated as we co-create & refine these. https://t.co/N416Cktomp
This image was chosen by the people to be the Face of Edmonton in 2024. “Beaver in Bough” was co-created with local Elders and Knowledge Keepers. Tees at The Makers Keep and EAC shop. Thanks all for the input & votes. Free poster: https://t.co/iqSXwOa93Q
Taken close to Edmonton's River, I love the super hero pose.
Did you know a male squirrel can actually smell a female in heat from up to a mile away? Amazing right?

@YEGwindshield & I were joined by our kids & nephew (& of course our pup Cooper) for a walk in the river valley today. If you don’t think Edmonton is beautiful, you really should go on the many trails in the river valley. If you did you’d change your mind. #Yeg#walk
The fossil of a sturgeon that lived 72 million years was found by a group of hikers in Edmonton's River Valley. This sturgeon is the first new species of fish named in Edmonton.
