Easy to posit about consistent messaging and "patience" when you haven't had to contend with a prejudiced & biased media, generational societal bigotry, state sanctioned violence and right wing funded lobbying. Yes, teach us your learnings from engaging the fridge shaped twerp.
Of course it's easy to give pointers on advocacy best practices when all it takes for your concerns to be addressed are a few twitter threads and spaces and the odd Claude carousel. Lmfao
What I’ve learnt throughout these months is most people cannot rally around what they don’t fully understand. That’s why the work is not just to oppose, but to explain clearly, patiently and consistently.
When people understand how a bill affects their rights, speech, work, family and future, they’re more likely to add their voice. Awareness is part of the fight.
@koboateng@blacklabrys let it be clear. that man is no hero. not to LGBTQ+ Ghanaians, and definitely not to Ghanaian women and girls who are the main targets of his family values advocacy where he’s actively seeking to strip us of our fundamental rights to live freely & safely
@koboateng@blacklabrys and they do not mind seeing queer ppl dead even if they have to give up their own rights for it. so good for you that your advocacy to samantha jorge worked.
he wanted to steal from you & silence but he wants us dead & that’s the difference between your work & ours
@koboateng@blacklabrys we’ve engaged journalists & media houses and all this while, activists have been arrested, threatened, assaulted & told to shut up about the bill. the issue is not solely that ppl don’t understand the bill, it’s that many ghanaians are homophobic & transphobic
@koboateng@blacklabrys this is very disingenuous. LGBTQ+ activists, human rights defenders & feminists have been opposing the bill & raising awareness over the past 5 yrs ago. multiple articles have been written, the bill has been translated in local languages & problematic sections highlighted.
Thought I was tuning into an actual rom com, if I wanted a psycho analysis on interracial relationships & gun violence, I could just scroll on twitter. Mtchew
This is resistance. This is queer joy in the midst of the whole anti-LGBTQ+ noise. People like Raase Mary continue to give me hope. If you have any support to give queer Ghanaians at this time, send it directly to the dolls!!! Reach out to @awo_dufie and @angelmaxinetv
