June 12, 1993.
Fourteen million Nigerians voted across every region and every divide, in what observers still call the fairest election this country has ever held.
No result was ever officially announced.
Not that year. Not ever.
We rebuilt what was erased.

Nigeria’s fairest election was annulled…
32 years later the man who did it admitted who won.
African Concord printed the full state-by-state count at the time. The magazine was shut down for it.
Today, we rebuilt that count… Every state. Every number. On the map. From the records that survived.

Nigeria’s fairest election was never counted. 🇳🇬
June 12, 1993. Fourteen million Nigerians voted, across every region and every religion.
Observers called it the most credible election Nigeria had ever held. The country waited for the result. Eleven days later, it was annulled. No result was ever officially declared. Not that year. Not ever.
For Democracy Day, we rebuilt what was buried.
Every state. Every number. On the map. The way it should have been declared in 1993.
The full story drops soon..

Two locations. One election. Very different levels of visibility.
At your polling unit, voting is open. Citizens watch. Votes are counted in public. The result is written on a sheet and posted on the wall for everyone to see.
At the collation centre, results from multiple polling units are combined. It is a smaller room, with fewer people watching, and the process becomes less visible.
Both locations matter equally.
The more Nigerians understand the process, the stronger our democracy becomes.
