@_PHAA_@PHAA_FANSIG@FHAllianceAU This all sounds excellent. I hope first food was not forgotten - enabling mothers to breastfeed provides food security and good nutrition for babies, even if mum doesn't have a 'perfect' diet.
@tonyeagleton@lauriejlee@DoctorChrisVT@BBCr4today 'Personal responsibility' seems to be very popular among those who would otherwise have to exercise corporate responsibility and responsible leadership... (Tobacco, alcohol, gambling, junk food, etc industries)
Interesting. Cross-cradle hold wasn't the only difference between groups though - would be interested to see exactly what each group learnt... Definitely shows mums need to know 'how' to breastfeed not just why!

The Government has been forced to admit that $40 a day isn't enough to live on.
In the aftermath of the pandemic, we can't have people sliding back into poverty.
Because when Australians fall on hard times, we should help them get back on their feet.
This sounds like a great tool to catch digital marketing of breastmilk substitutes! Marketers skirting old laws to prey on parents... https://t.co/F2pVfJ6clx
@Lisa_H_Amir@OzBreastfeeding@Nishaobgyn Really demonstrates how far we have to go. Someone breastfeeding in public shouldn't be distracting, because it should be so normal that we all see it every single day!
Dr Kathleen Gribble @OzBreastfeeding Health Professional seminars: 'The way that the justice, drug rehabilitation, and child protection systems treat mothers and babies guarantees intergenerational mothering incapacity'.
In 2018, "Parachute use to prevent death and major trauma when jumping from aircraft: randomized controlled trial" was published in the British Medical Journal.
It sought to determine if wearing a parachute when jumping from a plane had any impact on survivability.
It did not.
@Izzimonx@bflgireland@imperialcollege@FSAIinfo@EFSA_EU @DonnellyStephen @roinnslainte@WHO Do you really need a reference for 'human milk is the most appropriate food for human babies'? The onus should be on anything different from the biological norm to prove that it is an advance, or at very least not harmful.
@Chopstyx13@JuliePSmith1@MichaelGLFlood I kept records for my first child. Ten hours a day in the few weeks. I assume that's way above average from Prof Smith's data, but all such figures are an average with an attached range. 1800 seems perfectly reasonable based on my experience.
@Chopstyx13@JuliePSmith1@MichaelGLFlood Surely it depends on the individual dyad? Some babies feed more efficiently than others, and breasts have different strength of milk ejection reflex, and different storage capacity - all these factors affect how many hours a day a baby needs to breastfeed.
@gracie_je I've heard it can take multiple days from symptom onset to showing positive on a RAT. Can you get a PCR? Also have heard better to swab throat as well as nose. But yeah, if household member has COVID and too young to isolate, chances of you having just a cold seem small :(
@WordGardener@alipinknails@JenaFriedman If there was adequate support (paid parental leave, lactation breaks on return to work) and hospitals taught baby-led attachment, you wouldn't need anything except nursing bras and accessible clothing. Society imposes these costs on mothers.
Well, this is just embarrassing. @healthgovau Breastfeeding is foundational to so many health outcomes - you can save money further on by investing now in breastfeeding support.
World Breastfeeding Trends initiative (WBTi) - World Ranking: Where do we stand? Australia, we can do better!
Thank you, Naomi Hull! #astlit2022@WBTi_AUS
@bmj_latest That's bonkers. Why wouldn't you assume that a person who has given birth is likely lactating, and should be given appropriate provisions to maintain their health given this fact? It's like not providing toilet breaks because 'you didn't tell us you wanted them...'
"...the path leading to a better future will be clearer if everyone gives due regard to questions of who has power in the current food system and who caused the problems we are facing today."
Excellent analysis from @MichaelFakhri
Something happened at the forum that I can’t shake.
There was a woman with Down syndrome. Maybe thirty, maybe forty, maybe more. Hard to tell.
We talked during the break. Just like disabled folk do. And for a while, that was normal and okay.
