Kick-off is just hours away, but which fans truly believe their teams can go all the way?
Ahead of the 2026 @FIFAWorldCup 2026 - Brand Finance surveyed more than 14,000 football fans across 14 markets, including both participating and non-participating nations, to measure confidence in their national teams.
Brazil tops the optimism table - 55% of fans back their team to lift the trophy. Spain, France and the USA follow close behind - with American fans notably bullish on home soil advantage. At the other end, Scotland fans are the most cautious, at just 19%.
Why does this matter? Fan confidence is a powerful driver of attention, engagement and brand opportunity. For sponsors, broadcasters and rights holders, belief matters - because the teams fans think can win are often the teams they are most likely to follow, discuss and invest emotionally in.

Brand Finance’s latest research into hospital reputation from Research Director @Sundeep Mathias draws on insights from 2,500 healthcare professionals across 30 countries.
While AI is transforming healthcare, it is not yet transforming healthcare reputation. Statistical analysis finds that hospital reputations remain primarily driven by international recognition and accreditation, best-in-class patient outcomes, and strength in specialist areas.
Meanwhile, ‘uses and applies artificial intelligence’ ranks in the lower half of reputation drivers globally, and has declined in relative importance over the past year.
As Sundeep notes, technology investment alone does not shift perceptions. Reputation remains anchored in clinical excellence, expertise, and trust. AI may be reshaping healthcare delivery, but it must reinforce the fundamentals that matter most.
