The highlight of my day was to celebrate Mrs. Minor for having the highest SGP at Sims in reading and math. Keep it up, Mrs. Minor! Betty Saylor and Caprice Carroll have exceeded our content mastery target in third grade math. I am so proud of these ladies! Keep shining!!! ⭐️🌟
Today I was able to visit all classes and I caught @iwhittedsims and @educatedcaprice reviewing the math CUA data and questions with their scholars. One class was conducting a standard analysis and the other class was clearing up misconceptions. Way to go 3rd grade! @dl_sims
A teacher's dying wish was for people to wear masks during the pandemic. 3 Cobb County, GA educators have died during COVID. At a school board meeting Thursday, 2 board members & the superintendent refused to wear masks even during a moment of silence. A staff member responds:
Parent: Hi! I was told I can opt my child out of being in-person at school if I don’t feel comfortable.
School: Yes you can! We care about your safety!
Parent: I’d like to opt them out then.
School: Sure! Your child’s name?
Parent: Miles Davis. He teaches 3rd grade.

I keep thinking how in the ER when someone rolls in gasping "I can't breathe, I can't breathe" we all jump to our feet and run to assess and help them. It's #1 and 2 of our "ABC's" - Airway, Breathing, Circulation - that comes before any other concern.
I interviewed a teacher who is leaving the profession in June. I asked her why she was quitting.
Her response:
“I was told to teach to the test...that if it’s not a test-taking skill, don’t teach it. I didn’t become a teacher to help kids become better test-takers.”

Yay!! Can you believe it’s been 100 days already?! My scholars did the “100 Day Math Challenge” and they had a ball. We used 100 skittles, made bar graphs, line plots and answered our questions based on our data! @dl_sims@MathRcps@ByrdTeaching@TeresaB98467865
Some of my scholars with their Gingerbread creAtions we made before break! They had so much fun especially since they got to eat them😬😊. #latepost@dl_sims
During the break, I wrote personal notes on sticky notes for EACH one of students and placed it on their desk for when they returned. The look on some of their faces while reading them made me tear up. I just wanted them to know I cared. #missionaccomplished ❤️
In a recent survey regarding why educators are quitting at a RECORD RATE, one teacher responded:
"I work 55 hours a week, have 12 years' experience, and make $43,000. I worry and stress daily about my classroom prep work and kids. My health is being affected. I have to quit!”😔
