@Namaraledu My students really love working on projects that allow for choice. I assign them after every unit and allows for students to show their creativity. I love seeing their presentations because they take ownership/pride in their work. Talk shows, raps, playlists are some examples.

@Namaraledu It also depends on the situation and the student for me. I read the situation and see how I can redirect. Sometimes all it takes is just walking my the desk. Other times it may take a quick request to put other homework away or the phone away.

@Namaraledu I really try to get to know them and find out their interests. It takes time to build a rapport. I also try to create assignments that allow for students to explore their true interests. My seniors worked on a career study project and I hope I reached my apathetic students.

@Namaraledu Trivia games tend to motivate my students and allowing for extra credit is great incentive for them. Many really enjoy the traditional Kahoot.

@Namaraledu I agree with Sandy’s advice. Dedicate time for yourself so you don’t burn out. I am more productive when I take time for myself.

@Namaraledu I like to start out with the most difficult works first since the students are the most motivated in the beginning of the year. I will start off with Macbeth and Siddhartha.

@Namaraledu We have a book talk on their summer reading, I give them notes on essay format and they write a diagnostic essay so I can gauge their ability level.

@Namaraledu My syllabus is nothing fancy; it includes an overview of the course, the books that they will reading for the year, simple procedures, grading policy, and materials that they need.

@Namaraledu I have my students write me letter of introduction. I enjoy reading their letters because they share their interests, learning styles, goals and also share what they did this past summer.

@Namaraledu I will build a community by taking the time to get to know every student. I will mix up the activities in the classroom and in kids everything from journal writing, group projects, to games like kahoots. #RIHPD

@Namaraledu I usually do a different ice breaker activity with my class so that my students feel comfortable. Then, I get the seating chart set up so that I can learn their names quicker. I review the syllabus after I arrange their seating chart.
