En Colombia, el número de empleadores (en general, empresarios y profesionales que contratan asalariados) ha tendido a caer en términos absolutos al menos desde inicios de la década de 2010. En ese entonces alcanzaban los 948 mil, hoy son casi 250 mil menos, según información del DANE (ver gráfica).

¿Cuáles son las causas de ese fenómeno? ¿Qué consecuencias tiene? ¿Es congruente esa evolución con el desarrollo productivo y la merma del empleo precario y la informalidad? 🧵

La Constitución no impide que haya representantes de los trabajadores en la Junta Directiva del Banco de la República (requiere “competencia en materia económica”, no un título específico). Quizás lo sorprendente es que un gobierno de izquierda no haya nombrado ninguno, con mayor razón habiendo tenido varias oportunidades para hacerlo…

Los miembros de la Junta Directiva del Banco de la República pueden discrepar entre sí sobre la manera de conducir la política monetaria, pero -según la Constitución- la responsabilidad del Ministro de Hacienda de presidir ese organismo colegiado no es optativa. Es una obligación👇🏼

Buena pregunta. Un contrapeso del Gobierno frente al Banco de la República es el nombramiento (escalonado) de los miembros de la Junta Directiva. Como mínimo, son tres nombramientos por periodo presidencial, incluido el Ministro de Hacienda; por diversas razones, pueden y suelen ser más (renuncias, etc.).
Por ejemplo, el presidente Petro ha nombrado cuatro (4) de un total de siete (7) miembros: tres codirectores, más el Ministro como miembro nato y presidente del órgano colegiado. Es decir, la mayoría de la Junta.
Pero los codirectores están llamados a usar su propio entendimiento sobre la mejor manera de representar “el interés de la Nación” (como demanda la Constitución) en el ejercicio de las funciones del banco central; no son (no deben ser) mandaderos del Ejecutivo ni de ningún interés particular.

Historically, much of the gender gap in earnings could be explained by differences in education and occupational choices.

However, 2023 economic sciences laureate Claudia Goldin showed that the bulk of this earnings difference is now between men and women in the same occupation, and that it largely arises with the birth of the first child.
