Recently, I was on a campus where an elementary student ran out of class, throwing a tantrum on the floor. I saw him in the hallway and asked him why he was upset. He replied, “The teacher is making me work on stuff I can't do!”

I asked him why was it that he couldn't do the assignment. He shared that because of his behavior, he missed significant class time in pre-school, which resulted in him not being able to spell or read, which prompted his outbursts.

Looking into his eyes, I saw my sons, but really, I saw myself. I was a student with an IEP, a speech impediment, diagnosed with ADHD, with reading comprehension challenges.

I asked him if I could help him read and complete his assignments. He again said he couldn't read, and I quickly interjected, “YET!” We both enjoyed the reading passages on the Sea Otter and her pup.

Break the cycle. Be the change.

I’ve been hearing from parents that they love the stickers of their kids artworks and how they put them on their work laptops or water bottles😁! The last day to order is November 17th! Get a keepsake of your students art and help bring new art supplies to our art room! 🤗🎨
