@WaldenU Suppose you spend $100K getting your degree. If you are 50 years old, that degree needs to be earning you an extra $20K a year just to hit break even. Will it? No.
@BlondeHistorian Both you and @emma_camp_ are correct. We must acknowledge the emergence of a sprawling "disability industrial complex" on campuses. It dilutes resources AND timlieness of service delivery to those for which it's essential to their success. You should be working together.
@MarvinDunn4 The College Board should certainly be writing the AP curriculum, they have a 60 year history of actively persuing racial justice and equity.
To those in #HigherEd kvetching about @elonmusk: we have eyebrow raising issues of our own. Locked up in our endowments is 20 #Twitters worth of assets while we feign an affordability #crisis, expecting those without degrees to fund a bailout for the #loans that bankrolled it.
@philosophybites@TheNewEuropean We don't need public living rooms masquerading as libraries or libraries as catchall social service agencies or as book museums. That is what libraries have largely become, especially in #HigherEd. Libraries fulfill this function out apathy and neglect rather than intent.
"Dear everyone in #K12 and #HigherEd: you're sucking at this!" A rant:
Students need to know what to do when all this cobbled together shit-ware, and what passes for your "best efforts" at teaching on-line fail.
@ProfWagnon That is only 6% of teaching positions. Certainly half of those are retirements. This implies 97% are OK with the pay and hate and so on "endured" in the last year. As teaching is still the best part time job you can get.
More click bait headlines from @insidehighered when multiple students raise issues about the material and method of a faculty member, the institution has to investigate. One possible outcome is termination. Another is the per usual slap on the wrist.
Soka University of America could fire an LGBTQ writing professor over exposing students to “deviant pornography.” The professor and their supporters say Soka’s crossing a dangerous line. https://t.co/535wCVotWf
Isn't Internet 2 that private pay for fast lanes thing all the academics who have Internet 2 were saying people on Internet 1 didn't need aka #netneutrality ?
Congratulations to Ken Klingenstein, Internet2 evangelist for trust and identity, for making #InternetHistory! He was inducted into the #IHOF2021 for his pioneering work expanding the internet in the Western United States. Read more: https://t.co/u9hxTmDbS5 @InCommonUS
@AliciaMWalker1 Who do they think you are? Some common peon who has to answer their emails? Next thing you know you'll have a boss and weekly meeting and budget reviews. Who needs that.
@CraigMilroy@MylesSuer That assumes you can know the environmental impact of the cloud provider. Will you put your fire alarm system in the cloud? No? What about your firewalls? No? So you need a room or two. Now would you build a NEW data center? No.
@gracie_stockton@KSTP If science based policies are what is needed, perhaps that should apply to the gestalt of #highered#governance. Does science support granting tenure? Issuing stipends for seemingly trivial participation on committees? Having the summer to laze about? Ignoring student feedback?
@RdsSchneider @dresslerwh1 Peel back the hyper-woke veneer of academia you find a minority ruling class of entitled, privileged, over paid whiners who complain about their 5 hour a day, 8 month a year "jobs" while dismissing those they were hired to serve, and those who worked 14 hour days pay the bills.
