I disagree with FIFA for suspending the red card ban. I believe they are violating there own rules or making an unprecedented exception.
However, UEFA have long track records of inconsistent outrage and selective enforcement. They thunder about "integrity" when it suits institutional or confederation interests, then go quiet on other clear problems.
The Paraguay-France match is a perfect recent example (dirty/dark arts tactics: heavy fouling with minimal/no cards to Paraguay players, scuffing the penalty spot, elbows, hand-in-face, simulation, reckless challenges). It drew widespread criticism for poor refereeing and lack of punishment. As far as I understand, UEFA was largely silent or low-key on it. Why the loud statement here but not equivalent pushback on refereeing leniency or physical excesses elsewhere in the same tournament?
This gives me the impression that the real issue isn't pure principle—it's that this particular bending of rules helps a non-European team (USA) against a UEFA member (Belgium).
Moreover, broader patterns exist too: Refereeing inconsistencies are constant (harsh reds in one game vs. missed calls or yellows-only in another for similar or worse fouls).
UEFA and FIFA both have histories of selective application on bigger issues (financial rules, political situations, scheduling, etc.) Not to mention, UEFA has its own credibility problems (past club favoritism claims, FFP enforcement debates, etc.).
UEFA, as the European body, has natural institutional leanings toward its members. As a result, UEFA wants Belgium to have the best shot while posturing on the moral high ground...as Belgium benefits directly if Balogun sits. That doesn't make their stated principle wrong, but it makes the selective volume of outrage suspicious.
As I stated before, the automatic ban should have stood for consistency's sake. FIFA's intervention looks like a bad precedent (especially with political involvement), and it hands critics easy ammunition about compromised integrity. UEFA is correct on the narrow rule point here. But they (UEFA) are no better. That is to say, they are not consistent guardians of the game. The sport would be better with clearer, more independent, consistently applied rules and less political/confederation interference.
In any case, we (USA) are going to send Belgium packing regardless of whether Balogun plays tonight. Go USA!
We are deeply concerned about a report involving a missing child, Thomas Medlin, in New York, and our thoughts are with him and his family.
When we learned that one of our users was missing, we followed our standard process and immediately began an investigation, searched for any previous law enforcement inquiries, and reached out to law enforcement to offer any support in their investigation. After a thorough review, here is what we have found:
- No attempts to direct him to an off-platform communication method
- No sharing of off-platform contact information, including usernames, phone numbers or other communication methods
- All chat content was consistent with typical in-game discussions
- No indication that he used voice chat
We are holding Thomas and his family in our hearts as we hope for his safe return. We will continue to provide our full support to law enforcement throughout their investigation.
We are committed to safety; for anyone interested in learning more about the safeguards Roblox has in place and how to talk to kids about internet safety please visit https://t.co/VmdtN6n3iv.
🚨MISSING ELDERLY🚨
Shi Hua Xu is an endangered adult and was last seen in the Village of Great Neck on Tuesday, December 16. She was last seen wearing a red jacket, dark colored pants, and dark colored shoes as pictured. She is known to frequent the Bayside area.
@thechovanone He is NOT dead. So many people have prayed for him, there is NO way that he is dead. He is in critical condition, but he is definitely going to make it. I am going to use my prayer app which will automatically pray for him.
@ngahpham This makes me so sad to hear. I recently visited the Quang Ninh District in Quang Binh Province so this hits home hard even though the mishap occurred in Quang Ninh province. I was in QB visiting the grave of Võ Nguyên Giáp.
@emlanis_@flightradar24@grok The runway is configured for multiple start points, depending on the required runway length to support a variety of aircraft and loads. The 787 is a wide-body and with a planned 9-hour flight, it would need all of the runway. The discussion is the takeoff starting point.
@drantbradley I know that feeling well - from both sides. After further review, the call on the field stands - unsportsmanlike conduct by #17, the assistant coach. 15-yard penalty, repeat first down.
@CrockdadCO@atensnut After further review, the call on the field stands. Illegal motion, offence, #14. The pedestrian. 5 yard penalty, repeat first down. She crossed against the red light. This is in HK as I recognize the foul language.
@clownworld You can see the how one employee, the one who got slapped yet did not retaliate vs the fat bald guy in the red shirt who probably exposed himself and the company in criminal and civil liabilities. Promote the former guy and fire the latter.
