TO SENIOR ADVOCATES IN KENYA,

My Seniors,

Today, Tuesday, the 26th of November, 2024, marks a significant milestone in the lives of over 1500 young lawyers, myself included, who have successfully completed our Bar exams. This accomplishment fills us with immense joy and pride. Until today, we could not truly understand what it felt like to cross this threshold, but now we do. We worked tirelessly over the past months, pushing ourselves to the limit, and now, we eagerly await the fruits of our labor, with hopes for nothing short of success.

As we await to get to the next phase, which, as you all know, is the often daunting transition into pupillage, we can't help but be filled with anxiety. The thought of joining the ranks of those who pass the CLE exams, only to wait two, three, or more years for limited pupillage slots, fills us with dread. That thought is difficult to fully grasp, and even harder to accept. The uncertainty weighs heavily on us.

Recently, however, I had the privilege of receiving a call from an advocate who sought to offer mentorship to two or three ATP candidates, providing not only pupillage opportunities, but also long-term guidance that would extend beyond mere practice. This act of kindness was, without a doubt, one of the most compassionate gestures I have encountered in recent times. Many of us yearn for such opportunities, as they offer not just a chance to learn, but the kind of mentorship that shapes careers and lives.

It is in this spirit that I make this heartfelt request:

I urge you, my seniors, to help expand such comprehensive mentorship programs by offering to mentor as many ATP candidates as possible, starting next year when we will begin our pupillage. It would be a tragic injustice for any of us to miss out on such opportunities when we have thousands of senior advocates practicing across the country. I humbly ask that you embrace this idea and give back to the legal community by providing opportunities for us to learn, grow, and thrive. You may not yet realize how much this would mean to us, but I assure you, by doing so, you will be safeguarding an entire generation of lawyers.

If you are in need of a pupil or mentee and find fulfillment in guiding a younger version of yourself, I invite you to reach out to me at **0748645008** for referrals. I already have a list of brilliant candidates who, until now, have been unable to secure such opportunities.

Furthermore, I ask that, should you take one of us under your wing as a pupil or mentee, you treat us with the respect and consideration we need to flourish. Provide an enabling environment for our learning and development. Protect us from the potential predators whose stories we've heard time and again. Help us grow into ethical, skilled professionals who will one day give back to the legal community just as you have. In doing so, I believe that God—or any other power you believe in—will reward you. Your name will be inscribed in the books of those who shaped the future of the law.

This is an urgent appeal, and I hope you find it in your hearts to act swiftly, before it is too late.
