Fact #14 I am currently a part of the board of directors for Americans for Peace Now. I am still working as a professor for the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.
Fact #12 Some of the awards I received: Albert Einstein Award in 1985 ( just as prestigious as the Nobel Prize for theoretical physicists), National Medal of Science (given by the President of the United States), Isaac Newton Medal, Fundamental Physics Prize, etc.
discoveries soon becoming theorems. His Fields Medal at the 1990 International Congress of Mathematicians acknowledged the growing impact of his work on contemporary mathematics."
Fact #10 the authors of the ICM-90 Kyoto, Japan, Notices Amer. Math. Soc. 37 (9) (1990) summed, "Although mostly not in the form of completed proofs, Witten's ideas have triggered major mathematical developments by the force of their vision and their conceptual clarity, his main
Fact #9 I wrote about quantum field theories and described it in the invariants (function, quantity, or property) of Donaldson and Floer, and I generalized the Jones knot polynomial.
Fact #8 The paper that I talked about on the previous tweet, it became one of the central importance in the study of differential geometry. I presented new ideas of fundamental importance about the elliptic genus, and I started focusing my attention to quantum field theories.
Fact #7 One of my most subsequent works was a paper in the "Journal of differential geometry" in 1984; where I mostly talked Supersymmetry and the Morse theory.
Fact #5 I've received a long list of awards (not to brag or anything.) I did arrive at a level of math that led me to get the highest honor that a mathematician can receive which is a Fields Medal!
Fact #4 I was a professor of Physics at Princeton until 1987 when I was appointed as a Professor in the School of Natural Sciences at the Institute for Advanced Study.
Fact #3 I got my B.A at Brandeis University, and I continued on to get my M.A. and Ph.D. at Princeton. I also went to Harvard for my postdoctoral fellow at Harvard.
Edward W. 101!! Fact #1 My mother was Lorraine Witten and my father was Louis Witten. My father was a theoretical physicist, who specialized in gravitation and relativity.
