In strict compliance with the directive of Mr. President to us to open up the South American air route directly to Nigeria, I arrived Brazil late yesterday together with the DG, NCAA and some local operators and held meetings today with Aircraft Manufacturer and lessor, EMBRAER, at its headquarters located in São José dos Campos, State of São Paulo, Brazil.
We discussed extensively on how they can support our aviation ecosystem with their network of financiers and lessors. Discussions continue tomorrow in Brasilia with my counterpart, the Brazilian Minister of Ports and Airports, on how to tweak our existing BASA to immediately open the direct air route.
Yesterday, along with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development and other top Ministry officials, I inspected the new Headquarters of the Ministry of Aviation under construction in Abuja. We made our observations in respect of some amendments to the design and gave the contractor the deadline we expect the project to be completed and handed over.
Yesterday, I had the honour of receiving in my office in Abuja, the Jamaican Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Lincoln Downer. We discussed the issue of the signing of a Bilateral Air Service Agreement between both countries and both sides were enthusiastic about it. We immediately appointed focal persons on both sides to get to work on it.
On a lighter note, we also spoke some Jamaican Patwa - that colourful, descriptive and emphatic creole dialect that is like the ‘pidgin English’ of Jamaica.
Last Friday, my long-time friends and brothers, the consummate actors, Osita Iheme, MFR and Chinedu Ikedieze, MFR, (otherwise globally renowned as ‘Aki and Pawpaw’) paid me a courtesy call in my office in Abuja.
