@MobilePunch Didn’t initially realize what was going on. Was working from home, living about 50miles from around the epicenter and felt my building shaking for about 15 secs.
Checked my phone chat and saw messages from other colleagues talking about similar experiences.
Three types of people are respected: the royalty, the wicked and the principled.
The royalty are born into it. They do not necessarily earn it. This type of respect is fickle and the world will test them. The respect mostly lasts for only 2 - 3 generations before it fizzles away. The only way to sustain the royalty respect is to have a family code to signal and perpetuate it. A very easy example is the English royalty. The late Queen Elizabeth joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II. King Charles served in the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. Prince Harry served two tours in Afghanistan. It’s easy to understand the family code and how they are able to continue to command respect across generations. Without a code, the respect can never be sustained.
People often confuse the wicked with the principled. They seem to move the same way but they are very different.
The wicked understand how the world works and they try to optimize the processes for their own benefits. They don’t care who is taken out of the way. They are not necessarily psychopaths, but they exhibit traits of the dark triad. They like to watch people suffer, sometime for the fun of it. They can smell weakness from afar and will capitalize on it without remorse. Because they often mete out punishment, their ability to be completely cold and calculated can get blunt and they can get blindsided. Many can attest to those wicked bosses who rise rapidly through the ranks because they get things done. But they leave “dead bodies” in their wake.
The last are the principled. While they may not understand the theoretical basis of Game Theory, they internalize the basics. These are the ones who will give you a long rope to hang yourself. Many often think they are weak and naive, only to cross their boundaries and discover the ferocity of their anger. Because they don’t mete out punishment frequently, they can be very cold and calculated when they want to deal with anyone who crosses them. They are also able to rise through the ranks quickly because they understand how the world works.
People sometimes think the wicked are principled. They are not. Once the wicked see a way to capitalize on your weakness, they will crush you and use you as a stepping stone to get to the next level. To them, it’s not personal, it’s just business.
And then people also often think the principled are wicked. They are not. The principled swing into action only when you cross their boundaries. They do not capitalize on the weakness of others. Instead, they show them the ropes. They trust easily, that’s why they don’t forgive when you try to take advantage of their kindness.
