97 meritorious sportspersons were inducted under the Sports Quota on 12th August 2026 at an induction ceremony held at Prabodhan Sabhagar, Aayakar Bhawan, Mumbai.
The appointment letters were handed over by Shri Alok Kumar, Pr. Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai, at Aayakar Bhawan, Mumbai.
Over 80% of the selected sportspersons have represented/participated at the international level, bringing exceptional sporting talent into public service.

Hon’ble Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated Aayakar Sindhu, the new iconic office building of the Income Tax Department at Nariman Point, Mumbai, in the august presence of Shri Ravi Agrawal, Chairman, CBDT; Shri Pankaj Mishra, Member (Administration), CBDT; Shri Alok Kumar, Pr. CCIT, Mumbai, and other dignitaries.
The Hon’ble Chairman, CBDT congratulated the Mumbai Region on the completion of this project, which marks a milestone in strengthening the Department’s infrastructure.
The Hon’ble Finance Minister also congratulated the Department and assured that the infrastructure requirements of the Income Tax Department, particularly in the Mumbai Region, would receive due attention and be addressed in a positive manner.

Overlooking the Arabian Sea at Nariman Point, the majestic building is the new addition to the infrastructure of the Income Tax Departments. It was inaugurated and dedicated to the nation by the Hon’ble Finance Minister in the august presence of Shri Ravi Agrawal, Chairman, CBDT; Shri Pankaj Mishra, Member (Administration), CBDT; Shri Alok Kumar, Pr. Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai, and other dignitaries.

Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma today presided over the 167th Income Tax Day organised by the Income Tax Department at its headquarters at Kautilya Bhavan, BKC in Mumbai.
The Income Tax Department, Mumbai, celebrated the 167th Income Tax Day with great enthusiasm at Kautilya Bhawan, Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai, on 24 July 2026. The event was graced by the Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Jishnu Dev Varma, as the Chief Guest, with renowned actor Shri Vicky Kaushal attending as the Special Guest.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Alok Kumar, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai, highlighted the remarkable transformation of the Income Tax Department into a modern, technology-driven and taxpayer-centric organisation. He emphasised that the Department is increasingly focused on providing seamless taxpayer services through digital innovations such as pre-filled income tax returns, AI and machine learning-based risk assessment, faceless services and faster processing of returns and refunds.
Drawing an analogy that resonated with the audience, Shri Alok Kumar remarked that Advance Tax is not merely tax paid in advance, but tax paid for the advancement of the nation, as it finances the country’s future infrastructure and development.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Vicky Kaushal appreciated the Department’s citizen-centric approach and observed that after hearing the significance of Advance Tax in nation-building, he would now feel even better while paying his Advance Tax, as it truly contributes to the advancement of the nation.
The Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Jishnu Dev Varma, congratulated the Income Tax Department for its stupendous contribution to nation-building and commended its vital role in mobilising resources for India’s growth and development. He appreciated the Department’s efforts in embracing technology, improving taxpayer services and strengthening the nation’s fiscal foundation.
The celebration reaffirmed the Income Tax Department’s commitment to serving taxpayers with integrity, transparency and efficiency while contributing to the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Shri Alok Kumar, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai, launched the Reference Guide on Foreign Visits, Passports, Visas & Property Transactions on 15.06.2026 at Prabodhan Convention Hall at Aayakar Bhawan, Mumbai.
The Reference Guide brings together the relevant provisions of the CCS (Conduct) Rules, DoPT instructions, CBDT guidelines and departmental circulars in a single, comprehensive and user-friendly document for officers and officials of the Department. It serves as a ready reference on matters relating to foreign travel permissions, issuance and renewal of passports and visas, as well as permissions and intimations concerning property transactions.
By consolidating dispersed instructions and procedures into a single reference source, it seeks to facilitate informed decision-making and ensure greater procedural compliance across the Department.

As part of the run-up to the 167th Income Tax Day celebrations, a Health Check-up Camp was organised at Prabodhan Sabhagar, Aayakar Bhawan, Mumbai, on 14 July 2026.
Organised in association with CPAA and Wockhardt Hospital, Mumbai Central, the camp offered cancer screening for various types of cancer, routine blood tests, CBC, Blood Sugar, BP, Bone Mineral Density, Pulmonary Function Test, eye check-up, dietitian and doctor consultation.
A total of 208 officers and officials availed themselves of the health services, making the initiative a resounding success!

Organised in association with the Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) and Wockhardt Hospital, Mumbai Central, the camp offered early cancer screening, routine blood tests, Random Blood Sugar (RBS), Blood Pressure (BP), Body Mass Index (BMI), Bone Mineral Density (BMD), Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), Complete Blood Count (CBC), eye check-up and doctor consultation.
The initiative witnessed an enthusiastic response, with 151 officers and officials availing the cancer screening and 170 officers and officials benefiting from the general health check-up, making the camp a great success.

As part of the run-up to the 167th #IncomeTaxDay, the #IncomeTaxDepartment, Mumbai Region organised #Walkathon2026 under the leadership of Pr. CCIT Mumbai, Shri Alok Kumar. Over 700 officers, officials and their family members participated in the 5 km walk, promoting fitness, teamwork and tax awareness.
Leading by example, Shri Alok Kumar completed the entire 5 km walk alongside the participants. The event was graced by Randeep Hooda, acclaimed Indian actor, Akash Shinde, Asian Games Gold Medallist and Pro Kabaddi star, and Godfrey Pereira, international football player and Shiv Chhatrapati Award winner. Officers and officials who have brought laurels to the Department through their achievements in sports at the international level were also felicitated.
