There’s no consensus on protein intake for #sarcopenia but, when exercising, 1.2g protein per kg is recommended. How many of our older adults in rehab achieve this? 🤔 Really interesting talk from @NJCoxGeriDoc @GeriSoc#BGSconf
Unfortunately, a tabloid newspaper has got hold of a music video I recorded in Islington North with an iconic grime artist I've admired for years.
They are planning to publish a heavily edited clip, so I'm releasing the full version myself. Watch here: https://t.co/vwNGQN2wqU
A period of declining public satisfaction with the health and care system has brought with it a whole host of myths claiming to explain why we're in this situation. With this in mind, we've debunked some of the top myths that feature in this debate. 💬 https://t.co/I0LIsGrnGM
Where to even start with this…
Minister Damian Green was sacked following allegations re porn on his parliamentary PC
He’s now been recruited to oversee the Online Safety Bill
To replace Julian Knight who recused himself while police investigate allegations of sexual assault.
No.
These people likely have #delirium, exacerbated by the fact they are in an unfamiliar setting. They need the time, correct skill mix & community support to be discharged HOME.
They will get lost in this beyond broken system & remain in care forever. https://t.co/sgTp0IuW1t
@DrBenLovell Not only poor for patients who end up in the wrong clinic but now the specialist clinics are full of people in the wrong place, wasting clinic capacity also resulting in longer wait lists. Let's not underestimate the skill of knowing who to refer to and in what timeframe!
@DrTADM I wear asics goretex trainers, available in plain black or various colours. Comfy and most importantly, waterproof (I learned waterproof was the way when someone's catheter bag hadn't been closed properly and my toes got wet 🤢).
@banjobounce@DDawnOT Absolutely! I feel like as a clinician I can make this judgement but thought it would be really helpful to be able to have actual evidence to support my decision making. Looks like my RQ is on the right road! So glad I asked the question here!
Question for all the physios/ exercise professionals about frailty....How frail is too frail for resistance training? When someone's nutritional intake is minimal do you look to optimise nutrition before looking to add muscle strength training?
@banjobounce@DDawnOT This is the angle I am coming from- at what point does resistance exercise or indeed exercise beyond functional activities/ movement/ mobility become counter productive?
@Dr_Stauffer_PT Thanks for replying. Nope not assuming, using frailty scores and clinical assessment tools. Re: eating disorders this is an association I am exploring as while the reasons for the low BMI are very diff the impact is physiologically similar.
@elevatingEBP@TheFuelPhysio I’m thinking of patients who have a very poor daily caloric intake and their BMI is declining and they have been assessed as at risk of or being sarcopenic. With these patients is resistance training actually effective? Or are we just increasing a calorie deficit?
@elevatingEBP@TheFuelPhysio Thank you @elevatingEBP I have experience of clear guidance on exercise for patients suffering from an eating disorder and with pre-morbid over exercising behaviours vs. a frail older adult pop. who have similarly low BMI and a history of under exercising behaviours.
