Regarding Capt Anshuman Singh, his wife, and his parents' controversy:

There are two aspects: legal and moral. First, the legal: When an officer is commissioned, he executes a will. Since he is usually unmarried at the time, he nominates his parents.

Once married, he can change the will to allocate 100% to his wife, or 70-30, or 50-50 to the wife and parents, subject to approval. The army disburses funds and pensions accordingly. If Anshuman's wife is receiving the benefits, it's because he designated her in his will.

Second, the moral: Should she share benefits with his parents, who raised him? It's debatable. If they didn't get anything, I think she should, considering she is well-educated and had a good job.

However, her not sharing should not make his parents so resentful that they go to the media using terms like "paise leke bhag gayi." This mocks their son's sacrifice, the love of his life and their own family. Convey your point officially and with dignity. Media outbursts solve nothing.

Moreover, the parents are not poor or without support. His father is a pensioner from the Indian Army. Yogi Adityanath announced 50 lakhs in aid, divided between the wife and parents. The UP govt will provide a job to a family member. The 1 crore Army Group insurance money was also split equally between the parents and the wife. So, this whole controversy is unnecessary and should have been avoided by his parents.

PS. The above opinion is only about this case. I know there are genuine cases where the wife defrauds the parents, but this is not one of them.
