One incredible Year!

It is 1 year today since I was appointed to serve as Honourable Commissioner in the Edo State Government.

It has been a privilege and an honour to serve and I'm grateful for it. It has also been terrific and challenging also.

At the beginning, I really had no idea how I was going to adjust into this new office, though I had almost a decade experience as a public servant, this was a different arena altogether and i was committed to excelling regardless.

I also knew a couple of people were abit suspicious of me but I knew they were gonna fall in love with me in no time.

My mind was made up; I was coming home to contribute to the development of our State and do my best while at it.

One thing the Governor said to me before I got hired was paramount. He said--> I have found value in you and i want you to bring that value into service. I have remembered that statement and it has been my driving force till this moment.

Honestly, my biggest challenge was understanding my new boss, my new role in the public eye and what my exact deliverables were.

What has brought me the most joy is the number of people I have been able to put a little smile on their faces. The commendations from my boss, colleagues, admirers and critics have also strengthened me.
I have gained some good exposure and made some good friends along the way too. I have enjoyed picking up awards on behalf of the Governor and the State just as i have endured the criticism and insults that come with public service (some of which i return immediately🤣), but most importantly to me, I think I have made my old boy proud and family is impressed.

It has been a year of great sacrifice for me and the journey so far has been fun. Along the journey, I lost my biggest fan and I'll need a lifetime to recover.

I'm grateful for the privilege to sit at the table of a few where the most important of Government decisions are taken on behalf of the people.
I'm committed to finishing strong and to keep contributing to the gross happiness index of Edo people.

We've put together an amazing retail experience for Edo people at the prestigious Benin City Mall.
The most exciting part of it is that the first state owned soundproof Digital Library in Nigeria is also being built at this location and it is free to the public.
The Benin City Mall has 49 shops including a wellness spa, children's entertainment center, lounges, restaurants, bars, pharmacy, an exclusive night club, a state-of-the-art stallion Gym and the renowned Genesis Cinema amongst others.

This is the first of its kind in the series of malls been built across Edo State and the mall is strategically located along Sapele road in Benin City. It has the propensity to create 1000 indirect jobs for Edo people.

In Edo, we are teaching others to come copy. Our reform in the Agricultural industry has created an avalanche of opportunities for Agri-preneurs and has boosted our Agri-business potential. Our goal is to become food sufficient and self sustaining. We have a good story to tell and we are proud of it.

I have honestly never been so impressed with a police officer like I was today.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police Mr Funsho Adegboye Mni is a police personnel with a difference.

I had gone to his office for a matter and while I sat before him, I had an idea of what his daily experience was like dealing with security issues in Edo State. Numerous calls came from time to time and I asked-> CP is that how everyone calls you? He said Yes!
He gives out his direct line to everyone and that's his only phone line because he wants to be able to intervene in real time situations.

I saw him take immediate actions to help resolve citizens complaints of police harassment of different kinds and I was impressed with the swiftness with which he did it.

Even after giving clear directives to make sure things went as he had directed, he called back afterwards to be sure the complainants were ok.

Mr Fusho Adegboye Mni truly impressed me today and I thought to celebrate him.
Our men and women in Uniform can have more empathy and society will be better for it.

EDO 2024: YET ANOTHER CHALLENGE!!!

As an aspirant in the upcoming 2024 governorship election, today, I submitted our Nomination Form at the Wadata Plaza, National Secretariat of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, in Abuja. I used the term ‘Our Nomination Form’ because the Philip Shaibu campaign represents the people of Edo.

This year's election poses another challenge because of a ploy to hand governance over to businessmen, and we are firmly rejecting that. We cannot return to Egypt and the only way is when power resides with the people, not with businessmen — as PDP declares, ‘Power to the People,’ not to business moguls alone.

I understand the workings of the Edo State government due to my experience in the legislative arm and eight years running as the deputy governor. I am not running for governor due to personal ambition but to save Edo State from businessmen seeking to take control. I am experienced and understand what our state needs in Infrastructure, Education, Creativity, Science & Technology and Social Institutions. Since I became deputy governor, everything the governor has given as an assignment, I have always delivered excellently well — Sports, Immunization, Revenue Generation — in digital form.

I thanked the Deputy National Organising Secretary of our great party, the PDP, Hon. Pascal Adigwe for the warm reception and for recognising my records and giant strides over the years. He also wished me well in my ambition to become the next Governor of Edo State.
