“Sustainable improvement in education requires a focus on the practical, everyday realities of teaching and learning, coupled with policies that support and enhance these practices rather than simply mandate them.”
"If you keep showing up, you'll almost certainly break through — but probably not in the way you expected or intended. You need enough persistence to keep working and enough flexibility to enjoy success when it comes in a different form than you imagined."

“The future doesn't just happen to us. We have agency in imagining and creating the kind of future we want to live in, and we can take actions to get us there…”
Five Principles for Thinking Like a Futurist

A6: My lasting take away is that when everyday educators come together to learn and support one another, they can become teacher leaders and impact each other, the system, and even individual classes and students for good. #UTedChat
A5: Personally, I am not sure where to go. However, finding a way to keep Utah educators connected and informed is something that needs to be prioritized - even if the format is different. #UTedChat
A4: I think that professionally I have been impacted by having a “local” perspective of education that was outside of my own school and district. That impact and connection across the state has been a blessing and helped me see that we are all in this together! #utedchat
A1: I don’t remember when I first found #utedchat but I do know that it has impacted the trajectory of my career and given me the opportunity to learn from so many and make so many real and lasting professional connections!
A3: It is through the sharing on #utedchat that I heard about the Utah Teaching Fellows and saw what an impact they were making and had the potential to make. I am blessed by those experiences and relationships and see so much that continues to happen across the state by fellows.
@covili@covili I totally agree! Thank you for your impact statewide on so many educators - especially brought to life through #utedchat but also on me personally and professionally.
I appreciate this work by @dthornburg and graphic by @trev_mackenzie and @rbathursthunt.
In working on flexible learning spaces, a few approaches I have found to be impactful...
- Starting with a vision for student-centered learning, then asking: "What spaces will support this learning?"
- Focusing on the types of spaces featured in this graphic (and its accompanying research/resources)
- Leveraging the design thinking process to intentionally place students at the center of the work
- Focusing on specific classroom/school features: desks, student materials, surfaces, visual noise, hallways, etc.
A2: Recognizing the challenges that come this time of year helps me to refocus on core practices in a proactive, rather than reactive way. This prioritizes climate and culture over putting out fires or playing whack-a-mole. #leadLAP
