@san____ @OmgItsTania I’m F6 ->F7 and still not in training. I’m obviously an advocate of taking time, whether that be to gain more experience or just for yourself is up to you but it’s easier to take a pause now before you’re on a pathway. But everyone is different, you’ll know what’s right for you.
So I guess I’m an F5 now. There’s not many of us taking a third year out before training but being able to choose the jobs I want, and working where I want has made me a much happier person and has kept me interested in medicine. Here’s to another year of coasting through life🥂
@clifford0584@Trisha_the_doc I’m now 3rd year in Oz, staying for a while - Draw for me is opportunity to do jobs you enjoy without having to be tied into a training programme, but still having experience recognised. Other bonuses: flexibility in rostering, better pay, better lifestyle, sunny weather!
@SabrinaBhattac1 Glad you’re taking time for yourself. Please don’t feel a failure, the treadmill of
training sounds tough! Finding your own path, where you can enjoy medicine again and be happy is far more important. If you’re ever interested in the Australian life, give me a shout.
So there’s now been three points in my life I’ve been offered what once would have been a ‘dream job’ and have turned it down for something unknown/riskier. I may be stupid, but here’s to another year in Australia.
1 year ago today I flew half way round the world only planning to be out here 8 months. I miss friends and family but am having an incredible time. I enjoy my job (even in ED!), I’ve made great friends and I’ve found the work life balance people dream of. To Australia 🥂
@katieharr1988 For writing too neatly in the notes - the Reg was genuinely pissed off at my writing because it was legible and then wouldn’t let me write on ward round for the next few weeks as he liked it when only he could read his notes…
@GallivantGirl I know how you feel! It seems that it’s mostly the UK that expects people to start a training scheme pretty soon after foundation. I’ve met plenty of people in Australia who aren’t in training but are getting experience in pretty cool jobs. Might explore that for a bit.
