Here's your reminder that the best journalism is local. We are all better when our local newsrooms investigate and report what's happening in our communities. Good work, @SamKWEaster and @gfherald.
The New York Times front page today features a story on Grand Forks and the Fufeng controversy, a story @SamKWEaster and others at @gfherald have been writing about for months.
Let’s do a run down of the highlights…
One harried principal.
Two cousins & basketball standouts: one a would-be valedictorian, the other at risk of dropping out, both struggling in their own ways.

I'm excited to see how this partnership expands our understanding of Minnesota and the issues that matter to all. @SahanJournal does amazing work. This is a win for journalism and our communities.
We’re excited to announce a new partnership with @sahanjournal, a nonprofit newsroom dedicated to covering Minnesota's immigrants and communities of color. Launched in 2019 by former Star Tribune reporter @mukhtaryare, it’s become a trusted source of news for Minnesotans.
Remember the new 2020 rule: Just one major news story is allowed per day, except for Fridays, when there's one in the early morning to undermine your relief that the week is over and another in the late afternoon to ruin your weekend.
@AnthJenErickson That sounds awesome! We should chat. I keep thinking that Standing Rock and NoDAPL would provide an interesting framework for my media law & ethics course.
We teach reading as social literacy, capacity everyone should have. Too often writing is taught as a fine art -- like playing flute: only those with talent should pursue. Let's create a nation of writers. What good is freedom of expression if you lack means to express yourself?
