Never forget Boris Johnson tried to recite a poem about British colonialism in a former British colony; at its most sacred temple. Until the UK Amb intervened: “you’re on mic. Not a good idea."
"What, The Road to Mandalay?"
“No. Not appropriate.”

‘Bring on the hordes’ means people challenging Jim on his opposition to the principle of consent as laid out clearly in the GFA.
Worth repeating once again: if 50%+1 is good enough for the Union (as Jim clearly believes), then it’s good enough for Unity.
That is sacrosanct.
He’s both naive and foolish on this one, Mick. ‘Parallel consent’ is not only ridiculous but turns the GFA on its head. Worse, it feeds the residual supremacism lingering within political Unionism.
If there is one issue/one cause on earth that should determine one's humanitarianism and commitment to justice, it isn't obeisance to Israel (whose right to exist I recognise) but it is one's commitment to a Palestine nation which Israel, abusing the Holocaust, denies/subjugates.
It makes you look and sound extremely silly, Brian. Endorsing Mallon’s parallel consent notion is to both reject the GFA & proclaim unionist votes to be of greater value to their neighbours.
Good luck talking yourself out of that one.
Seamus Mallon makes the mistake of confusing Irish unity with an idealised vision of a united Ireland where Unionists end up voting it into existence.
Not gonna happen.
Foolish & dangerous to indulge such naivety.
I’ll be 56 next birthday. I assume that means I must be an adult.
The sad part is, I’m not.
No one tells you this, but I will.
You always will be somewhere between 19 and 25. Always.
Bobby Sands laid to rest - thirty eight years ago. Feels like yesterday. I was a child in Dublin. An ocean of tears were shed. A land that echoes the laughter of our children is the only patriotic response.
The parties making significant advances are united in support for Equal Marriage, an Irish Language Act & the Backstop.
Political Unionism (DUP/UUP/TUV/PUP/UKIP) collectively lost 32 seats.
Unionists are ahead of their leaders. They need to catch up.
