How is this website so fast?
I take a look behind McMaster-Carr and detail all the techniques they are using to make it fast.
They are doing it all — prefetching HTML, inlined CSS, fixed images, pushstate — and all on a stack with 15 year old tech.

Hopefully we kept you all guessing on what the "3" stands for in RP235x! Cortex-M processors are clearly best-in-class, but I hope you have fun playing with my core too.
@GergelyOrosz So is it the case that after 5 years average taxes will be "back to normal"? Because you will have those amortized taxes built up from each of the preceding 5 years? In other words incentivizing companies to not grow unless they have long term viability
"a + b", this one line of Python code executes thousands of lines of C behind the scenes. My latest article explains what goes on in the CPython runtime to execute this seemingly simple operation. You will learn about:
- Dynamic dispatch implementation in CPython
- What is the abstract object interface in CPython and its role in dynamic dispatch
- What is the PyTypeObject struct and its role in the CPython runtime
- How the various types in CPython implement operators and make them available to the runtime for dynamic dispatch to work.
- And, look inside the implementation of the float type to understand this more concretely.
The article includes 13 annotated code listings from CPython with all the explanations. Check it out: https://t.co/ttxZN8K2SC
(As a case in point: I hear that there's a problem that mosquitoes have adapted to malaria nets the way bacteria develop antibiotic resistance.
Classic example of a micro-scale positive impact becoming negative at a macro-scale.)

"GPT-4, respond as if you were a vampire, barely trying to hide it." (Ha!)
"Bard, this is the message I got back, should I be concerned?" (Good job, Bard)
@cliffski I think this is because of corporate culture - your website is presumably made by one person for one purpose, Google has had probably hundreds of engineers touch the search page over the years, all trying to build their little thing and not thinking about RAM
The simplest thing I believe about life is that everybody, without exception, flourishes when they are deeply and genuinely loved.
I also believe that everybody withers when they are projected onto (negatively *or* positively) and told the projection is love.
@dirge14518 That’s not what’s happening here. I’m trying to SAVE rural America from the ever expanding suburbs and exurbs!
Density the cities, which reduces sprawl, which prevents rural towns from being taken over by suburbanization. Same goes for preserving open land and farms.
It is nearly impossible to persuade someone to open their view if their view is socially load-bearing in the rich context of their life and you are socially meaningless to them
